    "hauler, pull 'im up!

Just received Solar Storm Grappel, so I thought I'd post a review.

The vehicle mode is pretty much no frills. A lot of the outer shell comes from folded up paneling in bot mode, so in some respects, this is really more of a “shell-former.” The deco on the truck mode is pretty slim. A few hazard stripes and little else. Nary an Autobot sigil is to be found on the one I have in either mode. The color is actually pretty ugly. It’s not orange, it’s not yellow, and it’s not pleasing to the eye. Something about the clear plastic windshields doesn’t sit well with me either, as I would’ve preferred something more tinted that doesn’t scream “let me look at your insides!”

Another complaint with the alt mode. It only looks right from the side. If you look from the top, there is a lot of kibble visible.

Robot mode is a bit better. Thankfully, there’s some black thrown in there to break up all that orange. (There’s no way I’m buying the United version with the orange head.) The figure is a nice nod to G1. The only problem is that the crane makes a rather unwieldy weapon. I’m not even sure what he’s supposed to use it for, but it certainly doesn’t lend itself well to combat. Grapple doesn’t come with any guns either. The crane makes him difficult to pose on a crowded shelf, too.

As far as transformation goes, he is pretty simplistic, perhaps even a little too simplistic for a Voyager class toy. Pretty much all the transformation entails is folding up the shell parts, folding down the legs, folding out the arms and turning up the head. I only encountered one real problem. The head is spring-loaded, so it should pop up immediately, but there is a lip from the clear windshield plastic that catches the neck plate and keeps it from flipping. When transforming to robot mode, I had to really put some force on the plate, and I was very afraid I was going to break him. This, along with the rather average truck form, assures me that in all likelihood, I will not be returning Grapple to vehicle mode.

I have him and he is okay. The joints on him is much tighter than Inferno's.

I dig Inferno and that with the fact I used to own the G1 of this will be enough for me to get him.

I will agree though the color will make him a back of the shelf guy.

Wasn't going to get him but since I love the mold so much and there's so much retooling done to differentiate him Grapple's made his way onto my want list.

Can't wait. Inferno mold was amazing and I was hoping for a repaint into Grapple. The remolding is just pure gravy!

His new hands don't look like they're molded to be able to hold other weapons. Is that accurate?

You are correct. His hands are molded in the open position, and there is no finger or wrist articulation or swivel.

thanks for the pics and review

grapple is almost the same mold as classic inferno
to me he looks good in vehicle, when he's robot the body design sucks
especially when you are seeing it from left right and back

Got my Grapple yesterday from Kapow Toys. Love this figure, Inferno was one of my favourite Universe 2.0 and was so pleased that Grapple got some love (Artfire next, please!).

Beautiful figure and the colours really pop. A couple of dodgy paint apps on mine but nothing major at all :)

Would have been nice to have the hand covers slide backwards rather than rotate like the do on Inferno - it looks like his hands are really blocked by them as they stand.

Is the neck thing - common.

Sizzle did you forget to fold the shoulder covers back or just decide to show the chevrons to try to give him more colour ?

You can pull on one of the lights on the top of the cab (forget if it slides forward or back), which will let the head spring out. No need to force. At least, that's how Inferno is.

Got him from bbts today. I really like this guy. I had bought a 2nd Inferno to repurpose into Grapple...no needed anymore. This guy is awesome. The remolding makes him just different enough to warrant another purchase.

Wow I'm kinda surprised there's only two pages of this thread so far.

I was on the fence abt getting this guy initially but got it a few days ago & not regretting it one bit, such a good reuse of the Inferno mold. :thumbs2:
