Just wanted to see what everyone thought about this.
Record executives are scum who can't cut it as artists themselves.
Good for Sharpton... I know it is very hard for Political figures to stay consistant, but at least he is making an attempt at it.
If he is making an effort to influence all aspects of society in order to uplift people and prevent derogatory racial slangs then good for him.
I like what Ed Koch did, telling that scumbag Sharpton to his face that he still needs to apologize for the Tawana Brawley incident.
Him and Jessie "Hymie Town" Jackson are two of the bigger racists to get so much media attention.
Right. In fact, didn't we see an article on the boards a week or two ago about someone calling Sharpton out for getting on Imus for his comments but not doing anything about the rap that contains the exact words or worse of what Imus said?
Is he also planning to call out the artists who produce said "gutter" rap? The record companies and their executives don't just magically summon this music from the ether, the artists bear responsibility for making the stuff and should be called to task for it as well. But then corporations are an easier/safer target.
The question in my mind is this: Is Sharpton doing this because he's had a serious change of heart (because he hasn't done this before), or is he just saving face because a game/talk show host PWNED him on national TV? I'm going with the latter.
I'll take "saving face" for $500.
I saw him recently on television and, true to form, he still managed to make the issue of rap lyrics racial--he said that figures show three out of four rap CDs are sold in white suburbs.
Sharpton takes every and any topic and turns it racial.
to me it seems he just wants more and more attention drawn to himself.. I can't stand that douchebag.
Sharpton is a scumbag racist. Never had respect for him, never will. Still waiting on his apology for calling those duke lacrosse players rapists.
Reade, Collin and Dave probably shouldn't be holding their breath for that. As Devilzfan pointed out, Sharpton has yet to own up to his role in the Brawley incident, and his involvement in that travesty was far greater than the comments he made in the Duke case.
That said, while this is certainly a politically motivated attempt to avoid being called a hypocrite...again, at least his move in this instance is the right one.
He is full of shit. Sharpton is only doing this because of the Don Imus thing. If that had not happen Sharpton would be giving out awards.
Gee, I wonder how long this is going to last?
All I can say is:
Wouldn't be surprised if that was true somewhat though honestly, i've seen much more white peeps driving by lately with loud rap coming from their cars.
How does this guy still get media attention? He's like a little bratty kid that you just can't shut up.
EXactly, trying to milk any publicity he can get.
You're kidding, right? You had to think about this?
"How come, even at KFC, the all-white meat is more expensive?"
"Why is it called 'blackmail?' Probably cracker propaganda."
"The game of billiards is racist. The ultimate goal is to get a white ball to sink the black one."
Separate names with a comma.
