Remember the rather amazing Hearts of Steel Optimus Prime custom by Griffith76 that had a nice lengthy thread dedicated to its construction last year? I thought it was in limbo but it has apparently resurfaced. Found the link on an image bot, go there and scroll to the may 2008 news. Sadly it seems to come at a hefty price tag.

Anybody got more infos about this? (Griffith?)

$600 is not bad I guess, I think I will attempt my own though. Wish I had the machine he uses to make things though or that new 3d scanner that is coming out.

It seems Griffith of Monoliths Designs is having a hard time reproducing it himself so he’s having Hal and RSP produce and sell it for him. Per RSP, they are only making 50. There is a little discussion about it over at Seibertron. $600 is very hefty though. I don’t think they will be able to sell 50 at that price. I was hoping for about $200 for a kit.

Well. Luckily I have a large amount of disposable income. Hopefully I can get one when it comes out. I've wanted one since he revealed he was working on one and I'm still interested in getting one, even if it is 600 bucks.

BTW, where are you all getting that price from? I don't see anything about a price anywhere on the site.

Hmmm. Hi guys... long time no see. Just to clarify certain issues, the story goes like this:

Like what VP mentioned, I'm having a really tough time producing an acceptable kit or figure outta that design and my first mold failed and had to redesign all the joints and the way the parts are put together. Shortly I was forced to give it up due to certain commitments with my "day job" until recently I took a bit of time to redo the joints in the robot and when I was about to do the trailer (it's gonna open up this time, empty though) I was offered a job to sculpt for shockertoys for their new action figure line and redo some of the older designs. So.... I got busy again.

Keeping the story short, Hal's my old customer and friend so many of the stuff you see on his site are my old sculpts and designs, like ARC, parts for the Devastator statue, pre-earth Bumblebee, the Quintessons... so he says he would produce it for me if I can't and I said ok. That's it.

One thing though, I've asked him if he can still offer the kits to the people who have contacted me before a very long time ago, at the price that I offered them initially coz I feel bad that I kinda promised that I'd produce and sell the kits/figures at that price but not being able to fulfill it. He's gracious enough to say ok but only to those I have on my list and he'll be contacting them to make them that discounted offer.

For more information you probably can email him directly, or you can pm me but only for technical info on the figure, I'm not involved in the sales or how he's gonna sell the thing. I may not check my pm too often though so you can email me at eric@monolithdesigns.com and I'll try my best to answer your questions.

And long time no see VP!!

Hmm..if they're gonna sell 'em at the price that you'd quoted to the people who'd asked a long time ago, then I'm really glad I did actually email you about buying one way back then lol. We'll see though. I'll probably have enough money either way.

Glad to see you are still here Griffith. And glad to see you were able to work out something with Hal to offer the HOS Prime at the previous price for those who wanted one a while back. Congrats on the new job. It's about time someone hired you and your talent!

Hey Grock, yep still in resin naturally. I'm not gonna have my ass whooped by Hasbro for making something like this in the mass numbers even if I can afford the metal molding and mass manufacturing. It's insanely expensive to make something this size in good quality. I'm already having headaches thinking about action figure parts and 5 of them nicely articulated figures have fewer parts and lesser mass than this guy. So it's still resin for everything except the joints that I've changed.

Hal will only offer the kits to those on the list. I offered $50 for the assembly with paint apps included and he said I was crazy and no way he'd do that and I guess he's right LOL The "new design" would take lesser effort to assemble though coz the old joints just don't work as the figure's designs to be made with really strong materials in precision but resin is a weak material and molding causes slight deformations and even shrinkages in certain areas so it just wont work. And 2nd thing is that the kit's gonna be just 3 colors instead of 5 coz I combined many parts together to save molding costs and resin wastage. The main issue about dyeing is to prevent paint chips or to have color underneath if you guys choose to paint over it anyway and get chipping during play. So I guess I need to clarify this a bit. Think Hal has mentioned to me that he's making a uncolored kit though, I don't know about the details yet as he's still planning. He didn't want to offer kits initially but I asked him to since a great deal of you guy who has supported me won't be able to afford the figure at the price he has set.

Chaos_convoy man I wish I have that kind of disposable cash you are having lol. I really don't think Hal's gonna do assembly cheap though and the old fee I was charging for assembly was supposed to be reasonable as I though it would be like... snap fit but it ain't . The few that I've sold through ebay and some long time supporters of mine I had to manually change all the joints myself and it takes a couple of days just to assemble one so $50 was really ridiculous. Hope you guy can understand. And probably why Hal would charge a premium price for the whole thing. Initially I was wanting to prove to a potential investor that this thing can sell if he'd fund me to "mass produce" so I absorbed quite a bit of the extra labor and fees to get the number of "orders" I had but well, all I can say is that trying to manufacture your own toy is bloody tougher than we all imagine it to be and we haven't even talked about the bigger problem: selling it after it gets made. So... I wanna stay outta production issues for now and focus on improving my designs and prototyping for now.

Hey VP I see that you're continuing to work on the WW Shockwave again! Great to see your work again! Well the new "job" isn't all sunshine and rainbows along the way but its still better than doing something completely unrelated like what I was doing since the completion of HOS Prime. Beggars can't be choosers lol TFs are still my main passion and I'd be working closely with Hal to do custom bots whenever I can afford the time to.

And oh ya, I've been away for so long.. I was actually fortunate enough to have a custom bust bought by Bowen Designs and sold under the official Marvel license. Just to share with you folks... I did the one on the right

I wish I could have gotten your ARC, but it was never available when I had the money, and was always offered when I was broke.
