There's a custom I am thinking of doing, but it would be really helpful to be able to be able to remove the rear smaller wings. They are riveted on. Can they be removed easily? If need be, I could chop them off as they don't have to go back on (I have substitutes available) but I'd prefer not to.
I think a 1/16" punch should work. I'd hammer it out on clay or sculpey. WILTON HARGRAVE DRIVE PIN PUNCH 8 SET 1/16" - 15/16" - eBay (item 230399121756 end time Dec-08-10 01:52:07 PST) Then use pliers to pull it out when enough of it shows to grab it. If the size is off I hope someone can give a correct size.
Hmm interesting. Where do I hammer it though? As far as I can tell, the pin is only accessible on one side (the inside of the leg, opposite the fin), and I would think it would come out from that side.
Thinking about this more, I should probably use the soldering iron method described here (for pin 2) : http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/tutorials-how-tos/214537-how-remove-pins-rivets.html Unfortunately I don't own a soldering iron, but it's probably about time I got one anyway.
There is a KO on the bay (white and beige) that doesn't have pins for that section. It's tabbed in and it's pretty solid (can't speak for most of the rest of the plane though , only got it for projects). You could always get that and just replace the whole set up. Soldering gun would seem tight in there. You should look at the tutorials section but I gotta agree that is a pretty tricky one.
The KO idea isn't bad necessarily, but money is tight and I already have this real Classics Starscream, as well as the parts I want to use when I remove the existing rear wings. Some time ago, someone (maybe over on allspark.com) found the white and burgundy KO at a dollar store (for an actual dollar). If I found that I'd buy a ton, but from what I have heard the KO is pretty bad in quality, so I don't think I can justify spending the $10+ on it from the ebay seller.
Really? wow. I'll have to check my dollar store here. If they have any I'll grab a couple and let you know.
They don't seem to be at widespread chains like Dollar General or Family Dollar... it was something smaller that doesn't exist in my area. Unfortunately I can't recall the name.
