Honestly, the arm panel transformation and back transformations that you guys have come up with are brilliant. Anyone considering redesigning the entire chest/arm section to make both of them more accurate? For instance, making the arms take up the front most section of the truck while having the rear portion of the hood form the red ab pieces. That might entail more than a simple add-on part, though.

Funny you mention that, I was pondering redesigning the forearms, and having the ab section at the back of the hood as a hollow right angle, and having the fire wall sections attached to the abs. This would however cause problems with the lights, but would allow for orange paint.

If however, we kept the arm configuration, we could ball joint the headlight mounts for the replacement abs :)

I can certainly add it to the to do list :D

Though on the subject of accessories, I was thinking of making it so when I do redesign the forearms, make it so the hands can retract, and the swords can plug in. This would be in addition to locking into the the side plate of the forearm.

To be honest, I'd really like to see the firewall at the proper placement in the hood, and the remainder of it accurately form the forearms. Between that and the backpack that you guys have redesigned, those are my biggest issues with the figure.

Side note, I hope AT decides to accurately paint those panels that the front wheels are on. Because they're not silver on the RL truck... -_-.. Some of the choices with the design and paint on the official, I swear.. Maybe AT would be able to use a nice color change orange to red on the front of the truck could be done in a fade, too. I found that turn signal amber faded over red works very nicely. :D

Another (probably damn) idea...What if you could make the diecast chest piece have two modes.Movie one and dotm where it rotates 180 to reveal the abs

And if it were tricky to get this to fit, we could design it similar to MP 36 megatron's interchangeable chest panel.

I think it's better to focus only on movie1/rotf design, later we can remold it in dotm. I'm not sure if is possible to make interchangeble forearms panels, abdomen, crotch and ribs pieces without compromising the figure.

Yeah adding too many gimmicks will only hinder the robot

I agree that the main focus should always be the transformation. However, the designs I have in mind will allow a lot of these extras to be incorporated :)

In robot mode, the tank is only about half as long as it is in vehicle mode. Can someone find a way to make it collapse or something?

The tank is already short, just look at @Barnabus Clank's diagrams. It will look odd in vehicle mode, but in robot mode it'll look good

That's why it should collapse or have half fold away or something. So it can look as good as possible in both modes. That's the point of this thread isn't it? I'll try to think up some mod ideas, but it might be difficult since I dont have the figure in hand.

    STF-01 Firage(Dino) announced

Guess I was wrong about AA not having made figures before. Er, half wrong - STF-01 will be the first. (There's apparently an upcoming Hound, too.) And it looks gorgeous. My expectations for this MPM Redux project have skyrocketed.

Technically this project should be even easier for them than Dino, because we have board members here working on the designs. All AA has to do is produce the parts en masse. Plus it's not a full figure, just parts

I found it would have been tricky to collapse the fuel tank in a clean way. I did weigh up increasing the thickness of the faux straps that go around the tank, to allow both ends to collapse, but this would massively distort proportions. :(

That's why I chose to hide the tool box inside the tank, and cover around a third of the tank with the fender. It won't be 100% accurate i.e. tank bands in the wrong place, but I think the overall look fits ok.

    Hope this helps :)

Is it feasible to have the center of the tank between the two bands be thinner and have the ends telescope in over top?

If not then having a separate pair of "transformation tanks" (ie. Revoltech transformation hands) could be an option
(From the pics it looks like they're integral to the backpack, if so then the tanks might be able to be slotted over an internal joint arm or some such workaround)

I have started to redesign these areas, and have some potentially promising ideas. It will also allow retractable hands, so the swords can be plugged into a central slot :)
