With New Super Mario Brothers coming out Big 9 and I were talking about the old Turtle Shell Free Man glitch and how they put it in on purpose in the new game, and talk turned to the ol Foot Slide and then the lesser known Small Firepower Glitch.

You see on one of the lesser Bowser levels 3-4 for example you jump over him as Super Mario without Firepower when he comes near you you jump and Bowser has to hit you at the same time you hit the axe to drop the bridge. You will flash indicating you were hit and it will make the sound for being hit but you are still big, and you are going to foot slide to Toad on the other foot than the normal trickwith the foot off the ground facing backward.

Now you start the next level, the next ? that is not a coin is a mushroom, but you are big right? Yep and the mushroom now makes you small. Later on you will get a Fire Flower and you will now have the colors of Firepower Mario but small. Now Fire a Fireball, Mario will become Big for a split second to fire the fireball and then return to his small size.

Really cool old trick, this I have come to realise is on the obscure side. The pics are from the first sucessfull attempt at this I have had in years, due to save states and persistance. You know it's kinda cool how good SMB looks in 720P, and it makes taling the pic a lot easier.

    Congrats Shin:thumb

It took me a while of playing SMB before I could pull that trick off at will

Although I never managed the "Koopa shell infinite free man trick" even to this day

I used that trick before. It's alot easier to pull off than the extra lives trick. (At least to me it is)

See for me the Free man trick was always easier, but I used it more too so the whole practice thing.

The free man turtle shell thing took practice back in the day. My friend from New York, who had a Mastersystem heard about this trick and it took us a few hours, but we got it. Even when I play now on the GBA, I still got it. Like riding a bike I guess. I vaguely remember having firepower and being small and turning big for a split second to shoot the fireball. Speaking of Mario glitches, one I could never do was overshoot the flagpole. I think I did the one where you keep repeating the waterworld x infinity.

in the new Super Mario game, there's a place (dont know which stage) where the turtle will be coming down the stairs and so i tried the turtle-1up trick but it didnt work...i just ended up losing my firepower.

The way I learned it was that when you get to the end of World 3-1 there are two turtles walking down the staircase. Jump over the first one and wait for the second one to get down to the third step, then jump on it. If you time it right you'll turn it into a shell and kick it, but since the steps are only one space wide and the shell is also one space wide, you'll just bounce up and down on top of it, increasing points and eventually as many 1ups as you want (although I've heard if you get much more than 99 the game crashes, so I always quit before that point). I'm not sure if it has to be on a specific step or not, that's just the way I learned it. Plus I was never able to get it to work consistently. Never did get the timing down, I usually just tried a few times until I got it.

after 99, it goes into some 1(followed by some weird thing) but if you do it way too much, it'll cause a game over.

and it doesn't have to be on a specific step....

it usually takes me the first try :D

Did anyone else ever jump over the flag? Man what a disappointment. You just keep going and going.

I jumped over the flag, via Game Genie , I was disappointed too, there was no end to it, you just kept walking on an empty level.

I have not played it yet but according to the guide the 1up trick does work in the new one, they put it in on purpose
