The fifth of November... for some reason.

    Happy V for Vendetta day!

So, I suppose this threads needs a point:

What odd holidays do you observe that no one else does?

The 5th of November is actually a big deal for us Brits. We commemorate the failed assasination attempt of King James in 1605 by having fireworks and burning effigies of Guy Fawkes, the failed assasin.

I don't care what most nerds say, V for Vendetta was a good movie. I haven't read the graphic novel, but it was still really interesting.

Anyone who hasn't read V for Vendetta should do so immediately.

I observe Walpurgisnacht and the feast days of several bizarre, obscure deities.

    I'll start celebrating!

April 8th is a day of remembrance and celebration for me. A remembrance of Kurt Cobain, and the celebration of The Offspring's "Smash". Sort of my own day, and not some obscure, but official holiday. Does it count?

Yeah, it's a big deal for the British, for Americans it's no big deal as it doesn't real involve you. It's like us Brits don't care about Black Friday or Labour Day.

I catch crap from some people for saying it but fireworks here should be banned, apart from maybe properly organised displays held in large fields by people who have had to get legally qualified to handle the fireworks.
Health and safety is a big thing here in England and schools ban playing conkers and kicking leather footballs about because kids might get hurt, and yet apparently it's okay for people to buy explosives from a local shop and let them off near their kids in the small confines of their back garden. Where's the sense?

Ironically, Occupy Wall Street protesters are now wearing V masks after November the Fifth.

Black Friday is not really a "Holiday" per say, it's just there. most sane people try to avoid going out of the house on that day :lol

i try to celebrate as many Canadian Holidays as possible (that i can remember) each year. It's not so much me doing anything special on Canadian Independence Day or Boxing Day; it is a way for me to humbly thank my beloved friends up in Moncton, Winnipeg and Brandon.
a show of respect and warm wishes.

and they still forgive me after the first year that i said, "Next Boxing Day, the gloves come off..." (ignorant me.)

Well, at least you didn't say something along the lines of "most sane white people" like what an idiot friend of mine tried to be funny with last year...

Seriously though, the 5th of November is usually nothing more to me than a 4 day prequel to my birthday that follows with the realization that I've done next to nothing with my life.
