As a preview for DW's GI Joe crossover, Toyfare magazine ran a bunch of Figueroa's sketches of WWII-era Transformers. Are there pictures of them anywhere on the intermanets?

The back of the trade, of course! The actual artist didn't use Don's designs, so them being included in the trade didn't occur to me. Maybe the trade has some designs Toyfare didn't, or vice versa...

Yeah, instead we had to put up with that crapfest from Jae Lee. Don't get me wrong, Jae Lee can do some good stuff, but I hated what he did with WWII transfomers..... and Hulk vs Thing: Hard Knocks. He drew Thing like he was a big pile of poop.

I remember seeing Don's designs and being floored by how cool they were.

Then I got the first issue and it was a giant WTF!
What am I looking at? Is that an arm or a back -what?
Why is that hand talking to Roadblock?

It's amazing that DW was criticized for having a "house style" art, but then the GI Joe crossover went so far the other way it was stupid.
I like stylized art very much, but you can't let the style get in the way of the narrative.
If only two characters are presented on one page it shouldn't take 5 panels before I can recognize who they are. And besides, when every character's face in obscured in shadow all the time (even in the middle of the day!) it doesn't look stylized -it looks stupid.

Back on topic: I hope Don checks out this thread and posts some scans. Would be the awesomesauce.

I loved the art in this comic. It's a shame it didn't continue on.

Ahhh but that's Jae Lee's style.
Everything in black so he doesn't have to draw faces.
    Or anything for that matter

I think he has shares in the colour black.

So I found that old dang Toyfare and scanned the pics- there are B&W sketches of Soundwave, Megs, Prime, Shockwave, Starscream, & Bumblebee. There are colored Ironhide & Grimlock sketches too. Are the extras in the trade an improvement on these in anyway- i.e. they're all colored, or more sketches are included?

Could you post the scans? Would love to see them, don't think I've ever seen those designs.

Answers, then scans! Eh well, I guess I should post 'em up and you can tell me what's different in the trade.
Uh, I'm pretty lazy? So I just posted the pics to the website I was on anyway.

There's also a never-reprinted G2 story, a Cracked parody of Transformers/Voltron, & Dreamwave pics from an article about Japanese-only Transformers. And a twisted toyfare theater about transformers. I just got a scanner, I kind of went nuts.

Believe it or not, I'm not on Facebook so I can't see the pictures.
I couldn't compare them to the trade anyway.

    I don't have it.

Oh man, I fucked up the URLs! Try them now, I clicked on both and they opened for me without being logged in. They're both public albums, so you don't need to be signed up with FB; they only took you to the signin page because the URLs were screwed.

Does anyone want to mirror these & post em here? The WWII sketches were in the trade, but the other Dreamwave illustrations are fair game. Thanks for hanging in there, Smasher!

I've always loved those designs, I would buy the whole line if produced.
