I like the packaging, but it's a bit deceiving. If you didn't already know better, you could easily think it was a huge new Classics edition of Soundwave... even though it says "Commemorative Edition" on it.

I certainly hope that Hasbro change their minds about releasing more commemorative's in the future. I can't think of anyone who wouldn't go absolutely ape shit if they reissued Shockwave and/or Jetfire for a limited time.

BTW, anyone notice on the box art that Laserbeak's thrusters/cannons (or whatever they are) look different now? The guns seem to be smaller and more flush on the side of the thrusters rather than sticking out like the original. Wonder if this is another design modification they had to make to prevent stupid children (or adults?) from poking their eyes out.

Both of those are quite unlikely, as neither one was originally a Hasbro or Takara mold, and someone else probably (or definitely, in Jetfire's case) owns them.

Legalities regarding the Shockwave mold are still in question, but the Jetfire mold will certainly not be reissued by Hasbro for the foreseeable future.

The box artwork was originally drawn by Pat Lee for a Dreamwave cover four years ago and was also used for the Takara reissue. I rather doubt Pat was predicting potential safety retools for a potential Hasbro reissue back then.

Fair enough. I must have skipped the part that said they used Pat Lee's old artwork for the new packaging.

I like the box very much, but somewhere inside I still wish we would get re-issues in the original box designs (with the flaps). So insted of that bulky characters, we get a flap box with DW figures on it.

The packaging is like that since it's being marketed for the Classics line. Ditto for 20th anniversary Prime, the Minicons, the Legends... Also, they cancelled the actual Classics Soundwave and did this instead.

That's great, because I missed out on him before...

    Awesome box!!!
I'm really curious to know which mold is being used. I have the Soundwave and Soundblaster reissues, so the thought of a blue Soundblaster mold intriged me, as someone said a "variation" I'll probably get it regarless, but it seems to be a mystery here...

I checked the ship date on the page and it has changed to 11/04/06! Is it truly possible that we could see him start shipping later today and early next week? Could a store release be close behind? Hopefully the answer is yes but until my order status changes I'm not holding my breath.

Im in the Will only buy if he is a blue Soundblaster Camp.
I have multiples of Soundwave (Original, Reissue, Hasbro, Takara, etc) And the reissue Soundblaster.
Only way they are getting my cash is if hes a 2 tape Soundwave.

I'll be biting regardless of which variation it is. A blue Soundblaster mold means I get a new toy variation, and an original Soundwave means I get a toy I feel comfortable handling, rather than keeping in a display case.

The Botcon version looks like a Euro package, with a photo instead, and as its a TRU exclusive, we have a chance of getting it over here, we got the CYB Screamer V Vector 2-pack.

Still, I'll be importing this for sure!
