A quick and easy repaint that I've been meaning to do since Energon came out.

Happened to snag a Wal*Mart Black Friday "Air Raid", and I happened to be painting the EXACT correct colors for another project, so I decided this was the moment to gang-paint this guy into existence

I'm pretty happy with how the face turned out, it's one of the original's most distinctive features, and it's also VERY high clown-paint potential. I was worried at first, but I think I pulled it off in the end.

Whoops...I forgot to spin his wings around for jet mode....

One of my PRIMARY TF's as a kid, so this guy holds a special place in my heart (Though I do have his brothers planned as well...)

For those not familiar with the original:

I'll admit that I've never seen that original figure before in my life, but that Skyblast mold works PERFECTLY for a newer version of it. Awesome job on the paint.

Yeah he was VERY fun mold! It was DEFINITELY the first thing I ever bought by mail-order, it may have even been the first TF I ever bought with my own money. I remember, we sent the money IN CASH in the envelope. Took forever to get the toy (go figure ;) ).

Not long after, everyone started explicitly putting those "No Cash!" instructions in the mail-order-books. I guess me and a million other toddling trans fans changed the world a little ;p

And I'm only about 60% back, so shoosh

Yes, the Powerdashers seem to languish in a bit of obscurity. At least Jet Dasher here was the one that appeared in the catalog, so he's a little more recognizable. I didn't know about the other two until the Internet ;)

Thanks for the compliment on the paint, not my best photography work, the red is actually reflective metallic (which is totally lost here). I think he came together pretty well :)

Nice repaint! That original figure looks familiar too. I like it. Was it one of those vehicles that you pull the figure backwards and then it rolls forward?

Nice work. Love the update of Sky Dasher. I actually forgot about those guys and I own them. Wonder what you have planned for Drill Dasher and F-1 Dasher. Can't wait to see.

Yeah, I really thought it was about as perfect a fit as one could hope to find! It's one of those repaints that Hasbro SHOULD do (It looks cool, and for those that know their obscure G1, it's a toy-selling-homage), but they don't seem to know their own back catalog as well as us ;)

I'm happy with how he came out but I'm sure you woulda done a better job :)

And yeah, all 3 Power Dashers were pull-back toys, lots of fun!

    Thanks!

It's a quirky, obscure, but super-cool trio. And I have a little theory that they may have had a MUCH bigger influence on Transformers history (toy-design wise) than people imagine, so they remain some of my favorites.

Sky Dasher (Why he's Jet Dasher in my head, I dunno, he was just "Powerdasher" to be as a kid :) ) is definitely the BEST fit of the three I have planned, but I think the others will be satisfying as well.

Don't no one hold their breath though, my completed-project-track-record is notoriously bad :D

Thanks for the great feedback all!

They don't seem to know anything as well as us. ;)

At any rate, have you ever thought about panel lining this guy? He's a great homage, but the metallic red and silver really need to be broken up a little...

Too true, too true! But at least they've made it part of their standard design process to consider an homage wherever it makes sense.

You're probably right, it'd probably help, but I've never been a big fan of the panel-lined look, and I'm a lazy-mostly-retired old dog, so I'm impressed I actually finished him at all ;)

Plus I kind of like how minimalistic he is, it helps him to match up with the original figure.

(Yes I do lie to myself to be able to sleep at night)

Thanks for digging up the post, my friend!

He's one of those "Wonky source material = slightly wonky results" kind of characters.

But I love him for it!

How did I miss this one, especially after all the chuckles we had about the Powerdashers! Excellent work buddy, you really nailed the colors and the face :)  Now you've got me expecting to see Drill Dasher and F-1 Dasher somewhere down the line, you can't just have one Dasher sitting all by himself.

I've got plans for the rest of the team, F1 Dasher probably comes next as he'll be another straight repaint.

Drill's gonna require some more work
