Are these necessary? My laptop just seems to be dragging more and more, and I've used Symantec, AVG, and Avast with only limited improvement.

I did try Registry Mechanic, but it only fixes some errors it supposedly finds without me buying the full version. I'd rather use freeware or only pay for something that a bunch of y'all endorse wholeheartedly.

    Any guidance on it?

uniblue is a good free registry cleaner. also try using Spybot Search and Destroy, it will clean up any bots running in the background and hogging up your resources.

I use ccleaner, lavasoft adaware and spyware blaster. Each serves its own purpose and I usually clean about once a month. It does help to keep the junk out...
