Well, it's been a while since I've been able to work on Redemption Episode 2, but I'm back to it. Almost all the voice work is done now (and I am very happy indeed with everyone's work on it - thank you guys! :)  ) and things are taking shape. It's still a way off, but I refuse to rush anything on it; Episode 2 is a labour of love, and it'll take as long as it takes. However I am aiming to get a trailer out in the next couple of weeks :)
Aided by a new quad core AMD Phenom X4 9500 with 3Gb RAM and 1Tb of storage, I can render stuff a lot quicker, and improve everything's quality as I go. The latest stills are looking like this:

Last year it looked like this, and took a LONG time to render:

    Now it looks like this:

    And renders a LOT quicker.
Stay tuned for more updates soon. :)

The hard work your putting into this will be so worth the wait. :thumb  I'm really liking the texture work you have going in both new stills. Keep at it Draven! :)

    Boo ya!

Looking a lot cleaner (yet rougher, if you know what I mean). How long is a frame taking?

The Megatron frame took longer to render than the other one; it took 12 minutes. The frame with Starscream & Paralyser took 5 minutes 38.

Hey Draven, out of curiosity, have you tried reimporting the updated models and textures into your Episode 1 animation scenes and tried to re-render?

Or is this something that would require you to actually have to reanimate everything?

I'm not sure how your production pipeline works, so this may or may not be feasible.

Anyways, it's really great to see the new shots. I must say that Megatron looks more realistic in terms of detailed textures and the lighting contrast is more defined.

I just love Paralyzer's grime, weatherbeaten look.

Is everthing still procedurals for the character models, or is there any projection mapping going on?

Looks like it's in good shape!

(Oh, I may be doing a spot of re-editing on Worlds Distant soon - should I send the revisions to you via PM first, or just post it up? It's mainly just fixing some formatting issues, though...)

It's something I'd like to do eventually; I do still have all the scene files for Episode One, so I wouldn't have to re-animated everything. however, since models such as Spearhead have been at least 80% remodelled since I made E1, some of them are a lot more complex. I'd have a LOT of work to do. ;)
Thanks man. My new PC is powerful enough for me to use radiosity properly on shots I feel would benefit from it, so I rendered that scene with radiosity. I wouldn't have even thought of doing that with the old Athlon. The shot with Screamer & Paralyser wasn't done using radiosity, but I completely rebuilt some of Paralyser's parts & totally redid his textures.
It's mostly procedurals on the characters; I use image mapping mostly for scenery and set details. I really should learn more about UV mapping sometime; I'd love to take a model like Paralyser and custom make his textures.
(Having said that, a large part of Paralyser's personality is that he is constantly upgrading his body to make himself a more effective "crusader" against the Autobots. By the time E3 is made he'll probably look a lot different. I'm planning on making it a runing joke, that will be referenced in the dialogue ;)  )
    I use Lightwave 3D.
Just go ahead and do them bro. If there are story differences though, I would appreciate having a look at them first. :)

Will do - though it should just be a case of making the text read a bit more neatly (the way I learned to do with more recent work on Fate/Trans Form).

Veeeeeery nice. Shame it took so long though...You really should have a full crew for this, the potential of this is nothing short of mindblowing! Oh well...:(

BTW, what will the runtime of episode 2 be?
