I've not been a big fan of the movie toys, but I kept seeing protoform Prime on the shelves... I bought him with the hopes of painting him. A few hours of work and this was the result.

Chest and arms were painted red. Head and legs got some blue. The thighs, abs, and codpiece got painted silver (pretty close to the factory grey, but it stands out in person). I painted the outside of the wings/shoulder-thingys red and the leading edge silver. And I finished with some very minor yellow detailing.

This was my first time going 100% acrylic. Normally I do a mix of enamel and acrylic. I think it turned out pretty well. The blue is this semi-translucent metal flake stuff. A lot of the grey underneath still shines through. It looks GREAT in person. The detail underneath really shines through.

I considered painting the eyes, but I like the red light piping, so I decided to leave them.

Meteor/rock/booger mode doesn't suffer much from the painting. The red stripe/mask looks kinda cool and the blue legs are almost unnoticable. I decided to paint half of the shoulder "wing" just so the stripe would go all the way across in rock mode. The red shoulders were almost completely hidden in this mode.

anyways, I'm way pleased with how this turned out, especially since it involved no planning. I just put my THS-02 in front of me and used it as a guide.

If anyone wants to see bigger versions of these shots, just hit my flickr stream.

Not sure how much I like the G1 paintscheme on entry-mode-Op, but I have to say it's nicely done. Acrylics are my paint of choice, personally.

Heh. The red paint makes it look like meteor mode is REALLY angry.

Nice work! You actually made him look worth buying. Now if he only came like that.

I like to think that movie Transformers come from a very dull, grey world with no color (hence the protoform colors) and once they get to Earth a veritable doorway to Crayola land is opened.

That said, I now totally want to get another Protoform Prime and paint him up G1-style. Excellent work my friend!

Thanks for the comments! Yeah, blending wasn't really on my list. I just wanted something that kinda looked like a Prime. I'm considering some work on the grille/nose of the meteor to make the red look a little less like a stripe, but that'll probably never happen. I'll probably leave it like this.

I've thought of painting the feet. I may. Not sure yet...

    Thanks again!
