Can anyone tell me what the story is with these guys?

I wasn't interested in Beast Wars when they first came out, and didn't get Internet access till well after that.

I know that Primal and Megatron came in basic sizes as the Bat and Crocodile, but can't really find any info about this set.

I'm asking as I managed to get a set of them. The fact that I couldn't find any information on them was what grabbed my interest. Also does anyone know how common they are?

It's called the VS-S1 Amazon Showdown Set and it came out in 1997.

Less common than the regular versions, but not particularly rare. I wouldn't think they should go over $40-$50 sealed. Mine was around $30 a few years back, as I recall.

I like the red bat better than the original, but am not crazy about the purple gator.

Not a bad set, but that's a CD not DVD in the package. (I need to learn Japanese one of these days.)

hmm, I feel the opposite. I love the purple gator, but I think a red bat is very garish. I kinda want to buy that set for the gator and then repaint the bat, but that's a very low priority for me

Ah, Convo-bat (not a misspell) and Megalligator. (Also not a misspell.

Didn't know they came with a CD.

While they may have been easier to obtain in the past, this set is pretty rare now. They are much harder to locate than the regular color releases, which show up quite often, even for their Japanese releases.

The only carded set that I've seen was selling for over $100. And that was from a seller who usually has below-market prices. I bought the two figures loose last year for much more than $40-50.

My favorite part about the set is that Megalligator has "D-ROM" written on his back, while Convobat has "C-ROM" written on his wing. Cybertron and Destron. And it spells CD-ROM. So clever.

I would agree w/ akum6n. I've only seen them available @ Botcon and that was a good 4+ years ago. I paid $35 for my set MOSC which even at that time was a steal. Every once in awhile you'll see them loose pop up in a mixed lot on Yahoo! Japan auctions, but I haven't seen another carded set in quite some time.

You can expect to pay over $100 for it. I've only seen 2 in the last year. If you can get it for less you are doing good.

I would agree he's rare if you're just looking on eBay.

BigPhill, you may want to sign up with one of the Japanese deputy services (www.rinkya.com, www.celga.com, www.shoppingmalljapan.com) so you can go after stuff on Yahoo Japan. This set pops up with some regularly there.

Cheers ams, but I've got a set.

It was the fact that I couldn't find any information about them that grabbed my interest. I knew they'd not be KO's as they came from a reputable UK seller.

I just decided to ask here to see if anyone could provide me with any information on them.

Gah! Sorry, I can't stand it when people don't read posts carefully, and that's exactly what I failed to do.
