I think it's safe to say I was... but I wasn't exactly enamoured by Back to Earth, and having caught some recent repeats on Dave it's a shame to see how badly (IMO) it's aged. :(

I honestly thought Back to Earth was an improvement on season 8. It wasn't great by any means, but it was a step in the right direction. The show's a long way from its glory days, but I'm still looking forward to the new episodes we're going to be getting. It's as much nostalgia as anything, really; I've been watching the show since I was in high school.

I have to agree with Back to Earth, but some of the older series (3, 4 and 5) might have aged but are still watchable.

Love 3 - 6, like 1 - 2, meh on most of 7 - 8 and BTE was one of the most painfully awful things I watched on TV last year.

The cast has still got it, but i'm not the least bit interested in seeing any more new stuff unless Doug Naylor stops writing it.

Back to Earth was dreadful, but I LOVE the seasons. 7 is probably my least favourite though.

Best character is Rimmer, no question.

I've got the entire set on DVD, but I never got a chance to watch Back to Earth.
I still watch an episode or two.

Let's not make it a hate thread for Back to Earth, it was disappointing but not as horrific as people like to pretend it was. It was a fan-wank project since it was likely to be the last shot for the series, it's not, so my hopes are high for the new episodes.

I actually got a friend of mine to buy the entire DVD box set just by showing him the sausage scene from Polymorph. Hell, I use that scene in my first TJ TV episode.

I haven't seen Back to Earth so I can't comment on it.
What's your favorite episode of RD? Mine are TimeSlides, Future Echo's, and others where they time-travel. OH, Backwards was awesome! LOL!

Gunmen of the Apocalypse is my favourite - followed closely by Back to Reality. Popular choices I know but they really are the best ones IMO.

Other faves - Queeg, Me2, Better than Life, Timeslides, Dimension Jump, Meltdown, Quarantine, Rimmerworld, Tikka to Ride....It's really hard to pick between them.

By far and away Backwards and Better Than Life, though I have a soft spot for Legion as well.

Stoke Me A Clipper was pretty cool. It was nice to see Rimmer make that sort of character change and attempt to fill the shoes of Ace. I'm on season 8 right now with Netflix, and it seems weaker to me than some of the seasons.

Just to save me the trouble of retyping all that for myself.

Honestly I have to say I more a fan of the books than the TV show now and I actually like Dougs final book better, Last Human has such a nice tied up ending and great story to it while I'll give that backwards is funnyer it just feels like such a rest at the end no one really progresses.

There a lot of truly classic Red Dwarf episodes. Gunmen of the Apocalypse, Legion, Quarantine, Blue, and almost all of season three rate very highly for me. But my favorite, hands down, has to be Stasis Leak from season two. So much of that episode was just pure gold; the elevator attendant video, Rimmer talking to himself, and probably my favorite Holly line ever: "It's better to have loved and to have lost than to listen to an album by Olivia Newton John."

Quarantine and Polymorph are probably my top favorites. Both have some hilarious over the top moments and I still love seeing Rimmer reduced to a tree hugger.

...anyone know where I can get a Mr. Flibble by chance?

The ending of episode "Blue" was hilarious with a little bit of "Small World" ride to it dedicated to Rimmer. Found the lyrics to the song played during the ride.

The song from The Rimmer Experience at the end of "Blue" has the following
words:

"If you're in trouble, he will save the day

He's brave and he's fearless, come what may

Without him, the mission would go astray

    He's Arnold, Arnold, Arnold Rimmer

Without him, life would be much grimmer

He's handsome, trim, and no one's slimmer

He will never need a Zimmer!

    He's Arnold, Arnold, Arnold Rimmer

More reliable than a garden Strimmer

He's never been mistaken for Yul Brynner

He's not bald and his head doesn't glimmer.

Master of the wit and the repartee

His command of space directives is uncanny

How come he's such a genius? Don't ask me

    Ask Arnold, Arnold, Arnold Rimmer

    He's also a fantastic swimmer

And if you play your cards right,
then he just might come round
for dinner"

    [Xtended version only:]

He's Arnold, Arnold, Arnold Rimmer
No rhymes left now apart from quimmer
We hope they fade us out before we get to schwimmer
Fade out you stupid plimmer
