I've been pulling out all my old albums from about 10 years ago and remembering when everything was care free (read no mortgage)

Can anyone recommend some good alt-rock bands along the lines of BNL ?
its hard to track stuff down in the boring old pop music saturated uk without knowing what your looking for.

    Cheers peeps! :)

BNL are a hard band to match up.

And depending on how heavy you want to get...

    Soundgarden,
    Pearl Jam,
    Nirvana
Eve 6 (Canadian band that had a few good songs)
    Matchbox 20
Mattew Good Band (or just Matt Good solo)
    Stone Temple Pilots
    Foo Fighters
The Tea Party (amazing musical band)
    Hootie and the Blowfish.

Thats all I can remember...my mind has been covilouted with thoughts of my own mortgage.

    Bands like BNL?

    Better Than Ezra
    Fastball
    Deep Blue Something
    Crash Test Dummies
    Ben Folds
    Cake
    Weezer
    Dave Matthews Band

They're not exact matches, but somewhat close.

In addition to the ones already mentioned, I also like Toad the Wet Sprocket, Alice in Chains, and Porno for Pyro.

You may also want to check out a band called
The Weakerthans. Smart writing, decent alt band stuff.

    Alternative Bands
    The Servant
    Muse
    Bowling for Soup
    REM
    Soundgarden
    Audio Slave

None are really like BNL. Bowling for Soup is fairly close though.

Gnaw that is more of metal. Not alternative. Not even anywhere near BNL either.

There's a lot of really good stuff in here. Of course I say that because my musical tastes developed during the 90s when most of these cats were big. I still buy Matthew Good.

I feel kinda bad about never really listening to the Tea Party. Most of their stuff on the radio sounded pretty soppy and overdone but then there would be stuff like Babylon or Morpheus, which makes me wonder if their album tracks would be more like the former or the latter.

Would some of the newer stuff out of Canada count, like the Trews or Wintersleep? I dig 'em but I'm not sure they count as alt. I'd say Sloan but they're way closer to rock-pop.

I get what your saying about The Tea Party. The new stuff was always very radio friendly and bland, but the Albums Splendor Solis and The Edges of Twilight had some really amazing tracks. They were always compared to (almost to the point of being told that they are coping) Led Zeppelin and The Doors, so they probably tried to change up the music, with not so great results. Never heard of WinterSleep but Sloan and The Trews rock.

Another great band is the Tragically Hip.
