My quest to find a 20 or 60gb backwards-compatible PS3 at a reasonable price failed miserably, but I did manage to get a very good deal locally on an 80gb software backwards-compatible PS3 bundled with Motorstorm, Guitar Hero 3, a wireless guitar, a handful of games I'll probably never play (Harry Potter PS2 games and The Sims the Island) and Prison Break season 3 on Blu-Ray.

Anyway, I am planning on buying Metal Gear Solid 4, as its the main reason why I wanted a PS3, next to its Blu-ray player.

So, what other games are worth getting? I'm into racing games, 1st and 3rd person shooters, anything tactical and/or military. Not big on sports or RPG games though, but will give the odd unique game a try, like the upcoming Flower game which looks strangely fun.

As far as tactical combat goes. I'd say check out Rainbow Six: Las Vegas, it's mainly for the Xbox but Ubisoft made PS3 versions, I dont know if they're direct ports.

Rainbow Six Las Vegas is also the most different of all the Rainbow Six games. The game is treated more like a standard FPS than a mission by mission progress. You have two squad mates at your command and you can do some coordination with them. If you're about to enter a room, you can "paint" targets for them and depending on what your orders are, you can clear a room of 5 bad guys in the matter of a second.

The firefights are really chaotic too.

I'm gonna go a different route and name an obscure, but cult favorite of mine that I've recently fallen back in love with.

    Armored Core: For Answer.

It's basically a giant robot game where you get to build your own robot from a list of hundreds/thousands of mix and match parts. Combat is most often fast paced and it's not uncommon to find yourself surrounded by countless amounts of incoming enemies of all types. Of course you can arm your bot to the teeth with numerous different weapons and body parts. Making a lightweight, fast moving, up close and personal sword user, a massive, slow, rolling machine of unstoppable death-tank, an ultra precision long range sniper who takes things down before they're even within range to counter-attack or whatever you could design.

It started out on the original Playstation and has been a personal favortite of mine for years. After following it through it's lifetimes on the PSone and PS2, I lost track of it when AC4 came out on the PS3 as that game was easily the weakest of the series. But 4A not only improved upon everything 4 did wrong, it improved upon many of the low points of the whole series.

It's definately a great game, and once you get used to the controls (it's not easy to move, aim, fly, quick boost and fire two weapons at once) and build yourself a decent robot, things will just click.

Ratchet & Clank (absolute must buy), Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4 are some of my favs. I want to get Uncharted, but the damn game is still full price here. Come on Greatest Hits already!

I'd agree with this. Use and abuse the demos to see what is out there.

I must echo the "Uncharted" comments.

So it looks like I will be hunting down Uncharted this weekend.

And MGS4 limited edition. Because Hideo Kojima can have my babies.

If you want to save money, gamestop has Condemned 2 for 20 bucks, Play the demo first, but it's a pretty sweet damn game.

Beside echoing the games everyone else has said, I would recommend Assassin's Creed or Dynasty Warriors Gundam (only if you hack and slash games and/or Gundam). Also, Orange Box.
