Received a video iPod (G5.5) as a gift recently, and it's quickly become apparent that it requires some kind of sleeve/case. However, with a veritable, massive selection out there, which ones work particularly well, or particularly badly? I'd, ideally, like one that keeps the iPod nice and slim - something protective that doesn't add bulk, and doesn't leave marks (as I've read some sleeves/cases do).

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you! :)

iSkin. They're fairly costly, but I got mine free Pepsi codes and it's amazing. Covers the iPod completely, including the USB part and comes with a screen cover. All you need in an iPod case.

I have an iSkin...and while I do dig it, there are draw backs.

The hold button is completely covered, which makes it very difficult to toggle the switch on and off. And if you buy a black iSkin like I did, the thing is a lint magnet. Put it in your pocket and it comes out with fuzzies.

My wife had some iPod socks... those were cool. Not that protective... but fuzzy and nice for just sitting around.

I got one of those neopreen cases for my nano. Its pretty sweet and its got a belt clip. the only draw back is the click wheel cover sits to high off the wheel. I just cut mine out, ohter than that I love it.

Are you referring to the little neopreen(?) black slip case that came in the box...? Because I just took my iPod out with me today for the first time in that slip, and it actually worked surprisingly well like that. I'm tempted to just stick with that right now, given the ambivalent things I'm hearing about other cases/sleeves (ie, covers the hold button, scratches the iPod, etcetc)

what i did was buy a macally wrap around cover (4.99) and use it in conjunction with the slip that came with it... until i lost the slip. The cover works just fine to protect the ipod unless you drop it or something... it sort of leaves a slim bit on the bottom and top open but i haven't had a problem with scratching in that area. the only thing is... you have to put it on right the first time or it won't stick so well or get some airbubbles and then dust and stuff with get around the edges.
i'm actually looking for a better solution myself, but this works just fine for now, just maybe not as 'preventative' as it could be

my g/f uses the screen protector thingee and the rubber skin. She was able to snag a light blue rubber skin at Wal-Mart for a buck.

Yup, that's the one I'm referring to.
Never had a problem with that.
