Ok since it seems I might acually make some extra cash this August after some chit chat with the boss this afternoon, I'm now in a position were I am in the market to finally pick up my first REAL Macross/Robotech Valkyrie fighter.

Wile having always been a mild Macross fan and despite knowing for the most part what stuff is currently out there, I thought it best to get some opinions before I invest my hard earned cash into one of these suckers.

    Recommendations? Thoughts?

I'm really only looking to buy one (at least in the long term) so I'm really only looking for one that truly and utterly kicks serious ass, and I dont mind waiting if there's a couple on the horizon worth waiting for (not including the announced YF-19 as I plan on getting it regardless).

Ya I actually have the Bandai Ichijo Hikaru as well, only cost me something like $30 at OTFCC a few years back. Awesome toy too :D

I was thinking more of the Yamato 1/48 scale Valk's that my bro CDN keeps tormenting me with :lol

Yamato 1/48 VF-1S is a good start. Just don't force the BP8 backpack past the hinge and you should be alright. Very durable. More durable than the alternators, but not as durable than MP Prime. Also, if you have alt or binaltech grimlock, the 1.48 is

more easier to transform than grimlock and is along the lines of sideswipe and override.

Yeah, I would go for Roy's VF-1s from Yamato - you can't go wrong with that. Just don't expect too many diecast parts though. :)

I so need Max's valk... However then I'd have to get a Miria... The super stealth type looks good too. The VF-1S Hikaru because it's so close to Jetfire... I don't think I have the money to even be looking at pictures of these things...

Anyone want to get me a full demonstration team of the Angel Bird VF-1A?

I would recommend the VF-1S Roy except for the fact that he doesn't come with the fix-posed TV style hands.

A VF-1J super Hikaru/Max/Miria would be a good one since it would come with fastpacks and the TV hands.

The VF-1J super stealth is another good one, as it also comes with fastpacks and TV hands.

Start with any Yamato 1/48 and buy the fast-packs with which ever one you get if it does not come with them.

The Yamato 1/60 VF-1's are alright but the 1/48 are better.

The Bandai reissue 1/55 are cool too.

The 1/60 Macross VF-0S is also great.

My recommendation? VF-1J, a set of fastpacks, and a stand so you can have something that looks like this:

Probably the best toy I've ever purchased over the hundred buck mark, except for Brave Max, but my wife bought that for me so I don't count him in what I've purchased.

I actually prefer the J style head to the S style. The S looks a little . . . I don't know, weak chinned I guess is the right term. I know, it was Jetfire's head, but it just doesn't look right to me these days.

But any 1/48 you can get is awesome. And for the record, neither set of hands looks right to me. The small ones look too small, and the big ones look too big. Some day I'll have to make my own set or find someone else who already has I suppose. But in the meantime, it's one heck of a lot of fun to fiddle with just like it is.

Very cool, but I like the VF-1J with the bulky armor (since It never had the fast-packs on the show).

And I know everyone will recommend the 1/48 Fokker VF-1S but the Hikaru is my Favorite.

I don't like the fact that the armor can't be used in jet mode... The added standard armor works, but that set is just overkill imo.

Ya I'm really eyeballing that 1/48 Max, although I might have to settle for Miria. But I like the red just as much as the blue so it all works out and I really dont have the same attachment to Max's character like a lot of Macross fans have.
