Hey everyone! I need a bit of help here. My Mom's going through some hard times and I want to do something nice for her. Pretty soon she'll be going out to get her hair colored with a friend so I decided to make her a nice lunch for when she gets back! I don't really want it to be a simple dish like mac & cheese, I want to put some effort in it to show how much she means to myself and my little brother. So far I have two sides planned (couscous and various veggies) dessert (home made iced cookies) and I need an entree.
The problem is I can't find a decent recipe online that I can make because it has a lot of ingredients that we either don't have or I don't know their location in the kitchen. :redface2:
So! My Mom is going to be leaving any minute now and I'd like it if you guys helped me by posting a few of your favorite recipes. We have various kinds of pasta, we have spaghetti sauce, chicken breast, Tilapia loins, and a lot of veggies, so any recipes that involve those as the main ingredients would be very helpful! Thanks!

Chicken breast, stuffed with sausage, wrapped with bacon.

I know you're missing two of those but it's awesome.

As long as your mum likes meat.

Maybe it would have been a good idea to think about this a bit sooner so you could have gotten some ingredients :lol

... I got nothing, sorry. Tomato rice?

Your best bet is to find a recipe you like, and then go out and pick up whatever ingredients you need. Or explore the kitchen so you know exactly what you have available.

You could always barbeque some steak or chicken and potatoes with grilled veggie skewers. Pretty simple to do. Or just make it with rice instead of potatoes.

Don't worry about an actual recipe, just cook.

Cut up the chicken, sautee it in a pan.

    Cook some pasta.

    Warm up the spaghetti sauce.

Put the cooked chicken (and any of the other veggies you think would be tasty) in the spaghetti sauce.

    Serve it over the pasta.

You could pull a Ms. Doubtfire. Order something from a fancy high-class resturant and make it look like you cooked it. Just don't tell your mom where you got the money from, and ignore her when she asks what happened to all her $20 bills in her purse :lol

But other than that, good luck. I don't know much about cooking other than how to use a stove. Don't worry you'll find something out.

there is a website called group recipes. You have to sign up, but after you do you can type in what you have and it will give you recipes based on some of those ingredients.

I would need a little bit more than that to work with. What I like to do with chicken is to soak it in Tequila and lime. After a bit of time of time toss it on the grill.
Now that I think about it most of my recipes involve booze....>.<

Well, if you are already making vegetables and couscous, Tilapia seems like the obvious choice. Fish is easy to bake and comes out great if you keep it simple. Just pre-heat the oven to 375 degrees, coat a baking dish in non-stick spray, prepare the fish (some olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper), place in baking dish, and cover with foil. Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until the fish is flakey with a white color. (You could, alternatively, make a marinade of equal parts soy sauce, honey, and balsamic vinegar, and add a bit of garlic. Cover the fish in the marinade and bake the same way as described before.)

Nope, everything pretty much turned out really well.
I went with the Alfredo so Dinner is ready and is staying warm in the microwave and oven until the Mother gets home.

I too enjoy Alfredo. Cook some meatballs and stir them in. Pure bachelor chow. Pure awesome.
