So over the last few years, many of us have had to pinch our pennies to make ends meet. Some of us have even had to do the unthinkable: Sell our favorite Transformers! Some of us have sold some prized possessions, whilst others have been forced into selling most of their collections.

So my question to you is this: If you were hit with hard times, what Transformers, if any, would you NOT sell? Is there just one figure, or maybe five, or maybe a collection of figures, that the price you could make on it would not justify parting with it?

I look at it this way: Some of my Transformers I can always re-buy later. But there are some that, if I sell, I may NEVER see again, not even at Botcon, at least without spending hundreds of dollars... and then there are some of course that there is a very strong sentimental attachment to. Here's the list for me:

    1) Ravage X-9 (Beast Wars Ravage)
    2) G1 Darkwing and Dreadwind
    3) RID Galvatron
    4) RID Scourge
    5) G1 Tracks
    6) All PVCs
    7) Mega-SCF Starscream (Emperor outfit with gun-Megatron)
    8) Classics Magnus and Skywarp 2-pack
    9) Classics SE Drag Strip and Overkill
    10) Predaking
    11) Titanium Fallen
    12) G1 Rodimus MISB
    13) Botcon SG Starscream and Megatron
    14) A custom action-master Emirate Xaaron

So what Transformers are you giving your Rick Astley commitment to?

I'd have to go with the following for my Top 10, they might not be worth a lot, but what can I say? I love my TFs:

    1) Classics Rodimus w/ FansProject upgrade
    2) FansProject Warbot Defender
    3) Masterpiece Grimlock
    4) Universe Inferno
    5) Universe Prowl
    6) Alternity Convoy
    7) Generations Red Alert
    8) Generations WFC Soundwave
    9) Universe Cyclonus
    10) Commerative Insecticons

    Classics/RTS/Universe 2.0/Generations and animated.

I will and have started picking through any other line to sell off happily, but those will never budge unless it's extreme desperate times. Hell I'd titlemax my car before selling them.

I'm with Deadend... I'd sell my car before my TFs.

If I did foresee some financial trouble in the horizon I have plenty of other high value things to get rid of first. I'd start with my motorcycle, my custom pickup truck, my winter car, my tools, and then finally my TFs.

But to go along with the topic I would find it much easier to list the few that I WOULD sell. Mostly the small, broken, and odd ones that no one would really want to buy anyway.

Isn't this situation dependent? I am almost certain that ANYONE here, will sell ANY transformers if say, he/she has a family and they are starving, or their son needs a surgery but you want to keep your rare ones.

I personally don't think there are transformers that are "absolutely will not sell", but more like "where in the desperation line it needs to be to sell them"

That said, I love my transformers, and there are some that I cannot bear to part with, such as classics line. HOWEVER, when there is a dire need in life more than just a piece of plastic (which is all they are at the end), I will sell them.

    MIB Megatron...
    MIB Prime...
    Grapple...
    Inferno...
    Hoist...
    Trailbreaker...
    My Pretenders collection (13)...

And probably JBW X9-Ravage to boot... :)

You're absolutely right, feeding the family definitely comes over any toy.

But there comes a point when, after you've wiped out almost your entire collection, and sold all of your most valuable ones, and all you have left is, say, your loose G1 Trailbreaker, you say to yourself "is it worth selling this very last Transformer for little money, who was my first TF from my deceased father when I was 6, or should I find something else to sell?"

I'd sell everything that could easily be replaced... Anything domestic could go. The Japanese stuff would only be that much harder to replace later, so it all stays. Of the g1 domestic stuff, I'd keep the bumblejumper.... The rest I see for sale every so often so it could go in an emergency. I'd only keep the stuff that I don't see often for sale.

Lines I would have a hard time selling off are:

G1, BW, BM, ALTS, MPs, Classicverse, Animated

I can easily let go of:

    BAYVERSE, A/E/C, 6" tites, Real Gear, R.I.D.

If I had to choose 5 figures.

    BW Rattrap (flip action)
MP Prime, he would take care of covering all Primes
MP Megatron, What is Prime without Megatron
    MP Grimlock, Dinobot nuff said
MP Hot Rodiumus (When I get it)

I will say though, upon thinking about the list of 5...it will be a very said chapter in my life if I were to have to sell my collection.

Nothing is untouchable in the end...that having been said, aside from figures that have scant resale value (looks at vintage heavily worn G1s)...

    MP-1
Cybertron Cryo Scourge (gift from wife early in our courtship)
...that's about it. Under the right circumstances anything else is fair game.

One just needs to make sure one does not end up in a situation were one needs to sell his TF or other collectibles.

The last figures I have that would go come down to my MIB Thunderwing (the same one I got when I was like seven. Not another one, but the same one) and my Black Zarak. Thunderwing is priceless to me via sentimentality; Black Zarak is not only extremely rare, but next to impossible to find without being broken from gps. I've already sold off "grails" in times of need, though. Back in '03 I sold off my Victory Saber to repair my car. Two weeks later the car got totaled by a drunk driver who decided to plow into it. Eight years later I've so far managed to get Star Sabre back; still need to find a Victory Leo, though...

    Tf's i won't ever sell

RiD Scourge/Car Robots Black Convoy (best figure ever)
Almost the entire Classics series styled figures
    Energon Unicron (Black Version)
    Cybertron Galvatron
    G1 Sixshot
    Animated Ultra Magnus
Every Version i have of the Cybertron Crosswise mold (Sadly not the Botcon repaints)
Well actually half of the Cybertron Line
    Alternator Tracks
    Alternator Hound
    Optimal Optimus

The Movie figures are more likely the figures that'd go first.

Sometimes the situation is out of anyone's control. In 2008 my father passed away, and I was unemployed. The only way I was able to keep the house as long as I did was by me selling off about 60% of my collection. Even then I managed to hold onto Thunderwing and Black Zarak, though.
