I searched and didn't find one.

Anyway, this is an appreciation thread for the old TFTM gimmick, Real Gear Robots.
I make this because, for some reason, those guys never get old and if I ever come across one of them I end up picking it up and transforming it a bit.
If you don't remember, maybe this guy will help:

Tell me if this is breaking any rules or should be closed. :p

I love these guys. The transformations are clever and came out so well, they're among my favorite Transformers. Plus, I'm tired of the typical cars, trucks, and planes.

In the fiction these were made by Erector.

In real life, I'm sure Eric Siebenaler worked on these, they sure look and feel like his work.

I love these personally, when they came out I didn't get it, but ignore the fiction, ignore the movies and go right back to 1984 when Transformers could be anything, not just jets or cars. Awesome toys.

Unfortunately, the ex-girlfriend got custody of these during the split. Boo! At least she was cool enough to collect Transformers though.

Favourites include the Binoculars, video camera and the awesome video game controller who reminds me of Beast Box.

Haha, yeah, High Score 100 (the console controller) is my favorite.
    Well, tied with Longview. xD

    That's great!

Most of the Real Gears are forgettable, but some of them really do have some personality. Here's a few laughing at Prime Prime's stupid gun.

I also dig the nods to TF:Cybertron on some of the handheld game/cell phone screens.

These shelf-warmed hard in my area, so I wasn't surprised they never got carried over into future lines.

Old pic of Booster that I did a simple repaint into Buzzsaw (to accompany ML Soundwave for my Classics)

The original Real Gear appreciation thread was the LOLGear thread, which is still one of my favorite internet forum threads of all time.

    http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/trans...-lolgear-i-e-caption-your-real-gear-toys.html

I am of the opinion that the Real Gear line was not only the best thing to come out of the movie line, but one of the best series of TFs to come along in recent times. I love every single one of them. The playful charm of random objects transforming into robots is, to me, part of what Transformers had been and is currently lacking. I would be absolutely delighted to see more.

Highscore and Spyshot remain two of my favourite sub-deluxe molds. I'd say all the RealGears were pretty good, but those two definitely top my list.

Sometimes this fandom drives me absolutely mad. Sometimes things reaffirm my faith to the extent that it's inspirational. Please tell me how you made them combine, I already use those 2 as Squawktalk and Beastbox.

Ahh yes, I love Real Gear more than anything other than Classics/Universe.

As I said to the Hasbro team at BotCon the year these were released, these guys represent a CORE part of the original play-pattern. It's hard to reconcile in fiction, but these guys capture the essence of the Microchange-legacy in a way that very very few Transformer designs have managed since G1.

I just wish the line had continued. Or gets ressurected.

Love these guys. They really did capture the spirit of early G1 with Megatron, Soundwave and the cassettes.

In recent years we've seen the likes of Lugnut and Skybite become part of G1 and I think these guys deserve the same. Be cool to see Longview retrofitted into TF Marvel UK as Rodimus Prime's binoculars. At the very least some characterisations would be nice.

I like to imagine Spyshot is a detective with Longview his partner and muscle.

The gorilla/game controller actually possesses a keen intellect but dislikes his bestial form. However a glitch prevents him from reformatting.

Definitely one of the best Transformers lines and deserving of some fiction.

Speaking just for my personal portion of the target audience, object-formers at or near real scale are just -cool-. The whole 'robots in disguise' thing taken to one of its most effective interpretations.

Always liked that Highscore's bio had him becoming a martial arts master by playing and beating every fighting game ever....
