Anybody catch a movie that showed the new trailer beforehand this weekend??

I'm really curious about any reactions you may have heard. I haven't been to the movies this weekend, for the record.

I did, sadly the theater was packed and was pretty silent during and after it. Overheard a few people uttering "cool" and a few I think were laughing. Dude next to me told his wife he thought it was a kids movie. Bout it.

Yeah, I heard a couple "another kids movie..." remarks too.

Are people retarded? It certainly doesn't look like a kids movie to me. Which is good.

I haven't seen it yet. What movie is it with? Me and hubby had sneaked into Night at the Museum, to just watch the trailers and didn't see it with that movie. Not sure which movie our theater may have stuck it with.

I heard someone say "And it comes on at Gay o clock!"

I turned around and let him have it.

I expected reactions like that so I'm not surprised

The thing is Drake that you're already a fan of Transformers and have seen the various shows. The people in the theaters most likely haven't though about Transformers in years. And what they do remember of it is from the 1980's series which was made for kids.

So when they hear/in the case see the name "Transformers" they think back to that childhood kiddy cartoon they watched after school or on weekends. They haven't seen Beast Wars or Beast Machines so they don't know that TFs CAN be a serious show/in this case movie.

Hell back in 1996 when Beasties first premiered on YTV, I saw the name Transformers and IMMEDIATELY thought back to the childhood kid's show. Fortunately since I had nothing to loose except 30 mins I gave the show a chance.

This type of stigma is going to be difficult to work through. But hopefully if those same people sit down and watch the movie. Hopefully the movie will shake that stigma for some

Had free tickets to "Night at the Museum". After the trailer was on, some people laughed about it, a person behind me said that its look as crappy as war of the worlds was, but with no Tom Cruise and the rest were silent afterwards. No big reactions, cheers or whatever.
I wanted to shout "BBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO", but I didn't.

Sadly, that type of stigma is also exactly why they had to change the look of the robots.

I don't understand why anyone would think it's a kids movie after watching that trailer. It's edited to look almost like an R rated horror.

My guess is that for lack of better wording it's prejudice you know. They see the name "Transformers" and to some it's synonymous(sp) with kid's toys.

Which ultimately proves the wisdom of divorcing this movie as much as possible from that 'kid's toy' stigma.

Transformers movie reaction from non die hards

you may find this interesting , but over the christmas holiday i was at my cousins house
and hes a real estate agent , married , in his 30's and we started to talk about the transformers movie. now hes not a die hard fan like me but he seemed very interested to see this movie brought to the big screen ..same with my brother whose a air force captain . alot of people want to see this movie get justice even if there were many changes in the storyline , characters etc....and even thou it is based on a toy concept ,
it brings back alot of childhood memories for alot of adults , so if the new style of the movie being a bit darker toned sells it to the movie masses , so be it. transformers the 86 movie was pretty dark for its time , i mean the whole movie was about death and rebirth that was aimed at 6 to 12 year olds . i can't really think of any other us/japanese animated movie that nearly touches those topics , except a few disney movies but only seen more in japanese anime. the idea of sentient robots from across the universe does seem far fetched but hey what about star trek and star warsor any other piece of movie fiction?

I haven't seen it theaters but I've shown it just about everyone I know. Not one negative reaction. They all loved it.

Well, all that "the trailer will dismiss any doubts about this being a silly toy movie" talk was right on the money then. :p

of course, with some of the talk in this thread, they could have a trailer filled to bursting with horror-grade gore and hard core pornography, and when the "Transformers" title comes up at the end, the commentary still would contain "Great, another kiddie film." ;)
