Yeah, that's right, I went WAY BACK!!

It's what I still, to this day, consider the first console Adventure/RPG (along the same lines of the Sword-Quest series). It had multiple "screens to explore" and an actual inventory of items that you could use to solve puzzles. It even had villagers and shops (if you consider a blob on the screen that you click on with your money bag a shop).

But for the last 25 years something about that game has always stumped me. Now, I may be asking some of you older gamers to remember something that most people have forgotten (what with me being obsessed with the game as a child).... That being said.. The game allows you two find two gernades. The first gernade is used to get you into the cave at the beginning of the game. But later on in the game you get another gernade, and it just sits in your inventory. I remember going through every possible screen in that game putting that gernade against every wall, to no avail. Can any of you older gamers remember back far enough to that game and know what that second gernade was used for?

With the answer to this question, I can die happy.

I wish I could help you, but the only thing I remember about that game is the damn Tse Tse flies.

    It's "grenade", not "gernade".

As far as the question goes, I think it may have been a glitch, but it was a LONG time ago. I think I beat that game one time, but I loved to play it.

Thanks spell-checker :D  Yeah it was fun banging my wall against that game, when the internet wasn't available.

And yes, yes, yes, I can check gamefaqs but where's the fun in that. I'd rather discuss the game here and see if there are any other people that remember playing it.

You start out in a room with a big rock and a whip. Get the whip and go
down. Get the key, medallion, gun, and grenade. There are two different
    things you can do now:

    1. (This is the way I normally use) Go to the sheik in white and buy the
parachute with the gold you start out with. Now go to the treasure room.

    2. Just leave with the bag of gold you start out with. Go against the right
wall and use the grenade. Walk quickly down to the marketplace again.
Immediately walk back up to the beginning room and go thought the hole. You
will get into the temple entrance. Walk through the lower right door. Whip
the dungeon and walk to the right wall. Now there are two things you can do
    here:

    1. (If you did #1 last time, do this one) Drop the gun. Pick up a bag of
gold and if the ankh appears, pick it up. If it doesn’t appear, go to the
room of shinning light, drop the gold, and try again.

    2. Drop the gun and the whip. Pick up the bag of gold and get the ankh if
it appears. Use the ankh whenever you get it and have three bags of gold.
Go to the room of shinning light and use the ankh. You will get to the mesa
field. Go across the mesas until you get to the end. If you fall, than
will you are going down the mesa side, use the ankh and you will end up
where the mesa you started. Drop the ankh when you finish and go down the
middle of the mesa to the map room. Select the key and walk down until the
map appears. Walk right and get in the center of the map. Use the
medallion and wait until the sun comes up. If you are not in the middle,
you will fall to the valley of poison and die. When the sun comes up, one
of the mesas will flash. REMEMBER WHICH MESA FLASHES. Get the key and walk
out. Once you are out, drop the medallion and the key. Now there are two
different things you can do here:

    1. Select the parachute and walk off the side. Will you are falling, use
the parachute. When you land, quickly drop the parachute and run through
the valley of poison, avoiding the tsetse flies and the thief. When you get
    to the end, you will get to the marketplace. Go back to the treasure room;
get two bags of gold and the chai. Go to the marketplace and give the chai
to the sheik in black. (You should have three bags of gold, and a whip right
    now.

    2. Walk down to the bottom of the map room and you will get to the thieves’
room. Walk through it without touching a thief. (You should have three bags
of gold now.) You should be in the black market now. Give the raving
lunatic gold and walk past him to the sheik with the shovel. Drop two bags
of gold and walk to the northeast side of the room and you should get to the
marketplace. Walk to the treasure room now. If you used the second way of
doing this, pick up the whip. You should have a whip and a shovel right
now. Get an ankh, and bag of gold, and a chai. Walk to the marketplace.
Buy a parachute. Use the ankh and get to the big mesa that looks like a
flying saucer. Walk of the mesa with the chai highlighted. Drop the chai
as you fall and use the parachute once you dropped it. If you are wondering
why you have to do this, it is because it gets the yar. You need the yar to
beat the game right. Drop the parachute when you land in the valley of
poison and walk up to the market place. You should now have a whip and a
shovel. Go to the treasure room and get a bag of gold and an ankh. Buy a
parachute and use the ankh. Go to the mesa that was flashing when you went
to the map room. If you don’t remember, that’s your fault because I told
you to remember in big letters. You can drop the whip if you want, but I
recommend. You will see why at the bottom. Run of the side of the mesa and
quickly use the parachute. Go to the left to the tree and a hole. Try to
slide into the hole by getting the bottom of the parachute in the tree. You
will now slide into the well of souls if you do it right. Quickly drop the
parachute before the thief gets you. If you didn’t get out in time and
didn’t drop the whip when you got to the mesa, it will steal the whip and
not the shovel. That’s why I recommend not dropping it. Walk down to the
bottom of the well of souls to the pile of dirt. Use the shovel and dig up
the ark. If you did the game fast, didn’t die, and got the yar, you should
be on the pedestal thing very high. As long as you got the yar, you should
see the maker of this game’s initials and the number two. The two means
that this is second game. If your wondering what game that is, the name is
Yar’s Revenge. Raiders of the Lost Ark is a lot better if you ask me.

Holy crap man, that was a cool read. I always beat it without dropping the Chia. Never even knew what that thing was for really. No wonder Indy never actually reached the top of the pedestal.

Hmm, so it still doesn't explain what that second grenade in the Black Market is for (you get it from the trash bin on the right), but still, that solves the mystery behind the chai.

Thanks for the info. Hehe, reading that brought back memories.
