I have a question about Radio shack Shockwave. Does Radio shack have the legal rights to reissue this toy? If so.... I think it would be a good seller. I had this toy back in the 80s and remember him being better quality than the Transformers Shockwave. Does anyone here own both versions to confirm this? Anyway.. with all the reissues that have come out over the years..... Why not a 25 Anniversary Radio shack version at Radio shack?

You are talking about a company that doesnt really own anything. They license stuff from other companies and slap their name on it. Look at Matchbox and Macross toys. Heck look at Hasbro and Jetfire. Same thing. They didnt own it but they bought the license from Someone else.

More than likely the mold is long gone.

Because Shackwave (fandom term for the Gray Radioshack Shocky) was really a Knock off? Hasbro doesn't re-issue knock-offs. The closest to a modern-day gray Shockwave we're gonna get is Animated Shockwave, and by that I mean normal release, not the pruple one.

As I understand it, "Shackwave" was not a knock-off (at least not in a literal sense) but simply another release of the Toyco "Astro Magnum" mold, which happened to also be licensed by Hasbro and Takara as Shockwave/Laserwave

I have the Shackwave figure, and I've got to say it impresses me. No degradation on the gun hose, tight joints and solid construction. Even after I painted it purple as a kid (WHAT WAS I THINKING???!!!), it still holds up to the Hasbro version.

I think he was saying that radio shack should rerelase it. I would buy a couple just for the hose.

The problem is, nether Hasbro, Takara nor Radioshck have the rights to release that mold any more. Not even the original manufacturer is sure if they own the rights to that mold as they do have an interest in re-releasing that toy as it would soon have it's 60th anniversary, they themselves seem to be pretty unhappy with the current situation.

I'm a little curious now. Granted I do not really know how the laws of this sort of thing work.

    The original says:

    Radio Shack
    B/O Galactiva Man
something about Cat No. and Battery

    Custom Manufactured
    In Korea For Radio Shack
    A Division of Tandy Corporation
    Forth Worth, Texas 76102

Hmm so I guess that doesn't help at all :)

shack or shock, doesn't matter, that toy if you just look at it wrong, falls apart, so i doubt it would even be able to be reissued with out a LOT of retooling.

"We have the Technology. We can rebuild him. Make him stronger, faster,...better"

Seriously, toy technology has improved much since the 1980's, just look at the intricate movie toys and the simple-yet-complicated Animated toys. Hasbro probably would be better off making a new version of him that almost looked the exact same but was superior in nearly every way, because he'd probably have ball joints, hopefully a higher quality rubber tube for his arm laser, and a totally re-designed transformation scheme to solve his head problems. I just think Hasbro won't do it because he turns into a laser gun, which for some reason falls under toy gun laws, and unlike Megatron, Hasbro doesn't want to try and over-ride that.

Wasn't there a new Shockwave prototype shown not long back? Not the WST one, but bigger. I think it was shown alongside the Cosmos prototype. Not that we're ever likely to see either in stores.

This is the way I remember my Shackwave. I remember taking a Decepticon sticker off of someone and sticking it on Shackwave's chest. I thought the material and constuction was sturdy and solid.

Waitaminute, what? 60th anniversary? That's, uh, a typo, right? This mold wasn't really created in 1950, was it? Am I mis-reading or missing something?

Astro Magnum: Tracking Down the Shockwave Mold Transformers
Plus or minus a few years. Shocky's the oldest Toy in the line-up and he's still more futuristic looking then most of them.
