"out from the depths, 30 stories high, breathing fire, his head in the sky!"

Yeah i'm on a Godzilla board right and i've got to say this is really exciting news....i'm a really big fan of Godzilla

and I'm going to steal my own post from said board and point out some of the previous work by the confirmed producers:

    And if anyone is curious:

So who are some of these producers?

Roy Lee (pretty Japanese/Asian/Western horror movie-heavy):

    Producer
    The Roommate 2011
    The Uninvited 2009
    Quarantine 2008
    The Strangers 2008
    Shutter 2008

    Co-Producer
How to Train Your Dragon 2010

    Executive Producer
    The Eye 2008
    The Invasion 2007
    The Grudge 2 2006
    The Departed 2006
    Eight Below 2006

    http://www.variety.com/profiles/people/main/39958/Roy+Lee.html?dataSet=1

Doug Davison (pretty similar resume as Lee's, looks like they co-produce a lot of stuff)

    http://www.variety.com/profiles/people/main/37007/Doug+Davison.html?dataSet=1

Dan Lin (some summer blockbusters on his resume. Big recent movies include Sherlock Holmes, prior work with Emmerich is a bit of a red flag though)

    Producer
    Sherlock Holmes 2009
    The Box 2009
    The Invention of Lying 2009

    Executive Producer
    Shorts 2009
    Terminator Salvation 2009

    Studio Executive
    10,000 B.C. 2008
    The Invasion 2007
    Unaccompanied Minors 2006
    The Departed 2006
    The Aviator 2004

    http://www.variety.com/profiles/people/main/42682/Dan+Lin.html?dataSet=1

Other mentioned producers are already involved in the purported Godzilla 3-D project, if they are not the one and the same as this.

Overall (judging solely from the past history) looks like an interesting mix of producers. And then obviously there's Legendary on top of that.

Legendary, for those who forgot, is also behind this Friday's Clash of the Titans remake

    You on TohoKingdom, Mobb One?

Either way, yes this is very exciting. And Devlin and Emmerich have nothing to do with it!

I am, but i mainly post on monster zero since that was the first godzilla board i joined (around 1997). And yeah I actually just watched Final Wars last night for the first time in 5 years and was wondering when a new Godzilla movie would be made...if ever. Lo and behold this news comes out not 24 hours later. I am PUMPED!

Our thoughts on Legendary Pictures Godzilla

Note: I want to apologies for the "Do more menacing in the poll". "Though more menacing". Silly me!!

Before we go for speculations during pre-production, lets have a serious discussion here.

I remembered something!! Yoshimitsu Banno Directed the 1971 Godzilla vs Hedorah(Smog Monster). He was rumored for the last 4 or 5 1/2 years in the works of Godzilla 3D to the MAX Godzilla 3D to the MAX - Wiki Zilla - Godzilla, Japanese Monster Movies. We hadn't heard about it in a long while.

Guess who were also on board in that project??: Brian Rogers & Kenji Okuhira. Who will work in the L.P. Godzilla along with Banno. Which make me wonder: Is the L.P. Godzilla .... G-3D to the Max??. I'll leave you that thought to yourselves.

Now to points we can all agree on:

    1) The fact Yoshimitsu Banno(in particular) is on board, means Toho will have direct supervision of the film's development, this include the aspect & nature of the character of Godzilla, unlike in 1998, were all was done behind close doors.

    2) I'm sorry defenders of the 98 Zilla, But I severely doubt Toho will allow a him to return. why??: They had a lot of negative reaction not only from American fans, but the Japanese public as well. Even people who has never seen or liked the G-films, felt out of place with it. The way Godzilla, as a character, was treated back then let a huge sour note between Toho & Tristar, which let to Toho not to renew the contract with them for the distribution of all the G-films . I don't think L.P. & Warner Bros. would want to repeat that mistake. I even recalled rumors of the Toho executives leaving the theater fast when Godzilla finally came out in it Japan debut.

    3) If is not Toho's Godzilla, is no go, Toho will not give a damn whether Godzilla is gonna be CGI(expect so) or a guy in a Rubber-suit. If is not theirs, is no go. Not only as a bulky Colossus that we had seen for nearly 60 years, but the moral metaphor he represents: the Horrors of the bomb, in the way Ishiro Honda vision after going to Hiroshima & saw the destruction that the Atomic bomb left. Godzilla is another sad victim of that. The Metaphor of natures revenge on mankind for toying with forces no mortal should have control of.

    Final note:
I'm both thrilled & nervous, cause you'll never know what an American studio will do to one of the most beloved Monster in the world, after what happened in 1998. But the words of Thomas Tull, Chairman and CEO of Legendary sound promising: "Our plans are to produce the Godzilla that we, as fans, would want to see. We intend to do justice to those essential elements that have allowed this character to remain as pop-culturally relevant for as long as it has." Tristar never gave us that assurance!! But until then, well have to wait and see what we will get.

    Your thoughts, folks.

I hope that the tone isn't too dark or too light. It'd be best to find the middle ground, much like Mothra vs. Godzilla did back in 1964. If it's too dark, nobody'll be able to relate to the characters, and it devolves into MST3k-dom. Too light, and it'll appeal to only kids.

I'm just glad that Devlin and Emmerich are no where near this one.

Wasn't there a thread about this already?

Anyway, I'm stoked. I loved Godzilla '98. I love Japanese Godzilla. Either way, I'll love this because regardless of whether it sucks or not, we'll get a new Godzilla toy line.
