Wow, didn't see that one coming. At least not now. They've been my favorite band since 1995, I can't imagine life without new R.E.M. albums! Ugh! :(

I never got into them, but I always had respect for them. Good song writers and musicians. It's good to hear they at least broke up amicably and on their own terms.

I guess this news will make everybody hurt. To some people it will be the end of the world as we know it. But they'll be fine. :D

What an awesome long run they had. Not many artists have lasted as long as they did. :thumb

I never got into them either. The only song I liked from them was "Orange Krush".

Same here, that's the second band to break up after 20 or so years(REM was at 31) this year(that I can think of). The other one being one of my top faves, Silverchair.:cry

    Nice one!

Just a shame they didn't go out with a bang, bang, bang.
A bad day for REM fans, just hope those shiny happy people don't mistaken it for the end of the world and lose their religion.

I've always found them to be overrated.

They've all been at this so long, it's hard to see them packing it in for good.

To me at least, they were always once of those bands it was hard to have any strong opinions about. Neither liked nor disliked them.

Hmmm, they were alright in my opinion, I did manage to meet Michael Stipe one time at a book signing of the photobook back in 2008. Nice bloke though, and signed the book for my Uncle. I still wished they go down with a bang, but alas not going to happen. :(

That's what I thought as well.

I did like some R.E.M. songs. Reminds me of high school.
