Looked it up on Google, doesn't help that the instructions do nothing (just like the goggles).

So for whatever reason, anytime I click a music file or a movie file or anything of the sort, I don't get the option to "Open" or "Save As". According to various websites, I can delete the registry file or use CMD.EXE to go ahead and delete it for me which will reset everything.

    reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\AttachmentExecute\{0002DF01-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}" /va /f

Sadly, on my new PC, that registry file does not exist (and I've checked manually).

How do I reset my stupid preferences on Windows Vista, other than sacrificing small puppies?

Can't be done as far as I know. For some reason they removed the ability to control it from the UI and IE will always send media files strait to your player instead of a download dialogue unless the website demands otherwise or you choose save target as from the context menu.

The registry entry only exists when you tell it to do that with file types that do open the box.

Wish I could help but the main reason why we're hesitating on buying a new computer is because of Vista.

Really, get rid of IE and get FF. All problems solved. Hell, just get rid of Vista.

Can't you just "save as" from Media Player once it opens?

I used to be a Vista naysayer. Then I bought a Vista computer a few months ago. I think its fine, and I haven't had any trouble with it at all.

i wanna try out that new windows 7 on those torrents.

but i dont wanna re-activate it every 30 days.

    kick:

Internet Options > Security > Custom Level > Scroll down till you find
"Automatic prompting for File Downloads" and set it to "Enable" OK?

    ^ That dont work?

roobasa, on Monday 3 November 2008 à 19:12:09After much head scratching and cussing, I learned that you must pay special attention to where you are attempting to save files in Vista. For example, I had created a new folder called C:\program files\gadgets\ where I was trying to save downloaded files to. But apparently unless you specify to run IE7 as Administrator, the files actually magically get saved to a different folder in c:\users\[username]\appdata\local\virtualstore\program files\gadgets\. And not so much as a peep from Vista to notify you that your file download has been redirected.
