    Howdy folks.

I'm not entirely satisfied with the glue i've been using when customizing.

What are the best types to use?

    Thanks in advance.

What are you gluing, and to what? Details would be helpful.

I think all super glues would break if its the only thing supporting a ball joint.
You need to reinforce the ball joint with something like a screw.

Edit: There is an example in this thread.

You guys feel free to list as many recommended adhesives as you like. I'd like to create a resource for them :)

Needed to make sure my glue was good for a mod tonight so I researched and learned-ed myself sumthin bout some glue!

-Super Glue is non toxic and was initially used to seal wounds. Later the Loc-Tite company sold it as a strong adhesive and it was subsequently pulled for medical uses because of an ingredient within at the time. 14 years ago it came full circle and is back in use (liquid skin at the pharmacy? yeah, super glue)

-Essentially all are the same. An acid is added to lengthen the cure time but the acid is water soluble so you get an instant cure when you dunk the glued part immediately in water as the acid dissolves away instantly leaving the glue cured fully.

-The more you use on a spot the weaker it is and the longer it takes to cure. It's the curing process that ends up effected by a glob of this. A little dab will do yah. Make coats every 15 minutes if need be but don't glob it on.

-I may have misread this but it's best NOT to squeeze two parts together and to actually have a gap (tiny tiny gap) as clamping or squeezing messes up proper curing and causes a weakened adhesion.

-Gorilla glue is not a super glue. It is polyurethane adhesive. It's also not as strong as it says because of it's cure process of causing bubbling. It is very strong though and toxic in liquid form unlike super glue which is non toxic.

-Super Glue is actually very resistant to glass and is not recommended for it.

-The acid in super glue is what gives off the fumes. These are toxic however if there is vapor best to wear a mask because of the moisture in your nostrils, mouth and lungs the vapors would instantly cure doing something bad.

wikipedia, it's your friend. Cross checking is a better friend ;)  and now you know and knowings half the battle...

Great, a glue resource, i think this threads need to be stickied!

*You see wut i did thar??? :lolol

And i'm surprised you guys haven't said Zap A Gap yet. I swear by the stuff, there ain't anything else half as strong as it in my experience. And it's cheaper enough. Use the Gap filling version (CA+, it's the green bottle).

Admittedly, this stuff reeks, and it's not good to breath the fumes, though that holds true with a lot of glues. And don't get it on you, duh. If you needed me to tell you that, then you shouldn't be using glues of any kind in the first place.

I second Punk's suggestion of Loctite's Control Gel. Key words being CONTROL GEL. The other ones they sell suck, on the control version is good imo, because the other ones are just too runny.

    Thanks :)

    Easter Egg facts:

Super glue should not be mixed with cotton. It causes a really high temp that can burn you badly and if enough is used on cottonballs or q-tips it can cause a fire but more importantly the fumes from the interaction are highly toxic.

Of course after reading that I want to try it really badly (I have an outdoors and I have a industrial mask). I won't, instead I'll opt for a youtube vid of rednecks doing it :)

Really? Never knew. Thanks Fishdirt. Damn you're tempting me to do just that, and we can hold SQ7 responsible! :lol

No, seriously, don't try that at home, kids!

Us Radicons gotta stick together in the thick of things like this! :D

*ahem* Yeah, keep up the good work here with providing your knowledge, experiences, and testimonials! Like I said, I've been wanting a resource like this for a while, so the more we get added here, the better :)

We've been beating over that dead horse so much...it's become glue already...

*okay, i'm running out of glue related jokes...

While i'm here, i'll add that using any runny glue is just screwing yourself over. Make sure whatever glue it is you decide to get, get something viscous, because otherwise you'll find many joints sealed up 'by accident'.

You'll find yourself in a sticky situation with no Quaddy to help you out if you blame him.

Yeah, no joke. This is highly dangerous even though there are simple elements involved. The fumes are very harmful. Not sure what the chemical reaction is but it's a bad combo like ajax and bleach (which will instantly give you a heart attack from combining the two).

Anyway, you can see the smoke on this vid. It's almost like a electrical smoke. White and thick:

YouTube - super glue vs cotton swab

Like I said, there's always some idiot on youtube doing something dumb so I don't have to do it myself :)

Ajax and Bleach? That can kill you? Never knew.

But seriously, i may be 16 yrs old, but even i have enough sense not to do that. Youtube is the home of idiots that actually do sh*t like that, Radicons is not.

And i've never even heard of that one SQ. What's a Quaddy?

*Oh wait, i just got it.
