I've been seeing prototypes on Ebay for quite some time and I have some questions about them:

    1. Are they acquired illegally/stolen from factories or could the sellers have acquired them through legal means?

    2. How many prototypes are made of each figure?

Any input would be appreciated. TIA. :)

They're illegally stolen, I can tell you that much. I'd say they only make maybe 100 prototypes, however that part is a complete guess.

I'd say they make more than that. I remember Red Bulkhead being plentiful.

Thanks for the replies guys, I would have wanted to have some of those prototypes, but if they're stolen, then I better just forget about them then. :(

What saddens me are the figures that will never see regular release but with only prototypes available. But I'd rather not buy something that was illegally acquired. :(

^Yeah, there are many instances which some unreleased protos made it to the final stage of production, only to have it shelved, thus leading to limited quantities made. Yup, agreed that paying for stolen property is not the way a collector should go. IMHO, Id much rather buy the 'Ehobby'/ limited released stuff over protos anyday. :D

    On normal days, yes...

But what ya gonna do when the toy you wanted never see an official release? (We all know too well that this happens from time to time)

And you reach a point where you either choose to just get whatever that's being made available to you. (Be it stolen goods, protos, whatever that deem fit)

    Or...

You walk away, knowing you'll never have it in your possession. :rip

^ I thought he was known as WonderFest Black Convoy, no? :drunk

    Yes, correct.

That piece is just an example of the many TFs toy pieces that gotten pulled out at the last minute.

Back to topic, are you gonna give up one of those faves when you're left with no official release to speak of?

I know I wouldn't. (Unless you're telling me that its gonna cost the hel* outta me)

^:confused2  Uhh yeah..beside WF Black Convoy, there were many G1 protos that were pulled at their final release. I just have that 'what could have been kicka**' version of God Bomber in mind.

IF it is on ebay...it is legal to buy...Because ebay never breaks any laws or allows "illegally obtained products" to be sold on it's 5 star website...

    Ebay:
Most of the prototypes you see on ebay are KO remakes without paint.
