explain to me how you think you can run a business by:

NOT ACCEPTING cash or checks at all

    and

ONLY ACCEPTING credit/debit cards with photo ID that both have to be copied in order to rent any movies or video games

from a very small rental business run by only 3 guys that have NO NEW RELEASE MOVIES/GAMES, everything on the shelves is atleast 2-3months old, no classics movies/films, no genre sections, no kids section, & grand total of 12 blu-ray titles

plus you only find out said rental facts when you are at the counter causing 3 other groups of customers to walk out of the business upon overhearing rental facts & inform new group of customers going in about these rental facts when you & other group of customers are leaving

Hm. Interesting. I don't think I'd want to be renting my movies from there.

I can understand having a credit card and photo id on file to rent, especially if its a small store.

And as far as the stock, I'd say give it time.

they've been open for about a month-month&ahalf actually.

true, but then why do they have their business only set up this way for what seems to be for the long haul:

They can run a business doing whatever the hell they want. It's a matter of whether or not they can run a profitable business with those plans.

The whole "Legal Tender" written on money thing kinda brings into question the "no cash" part, but I'm not legal council so I haven't a clue.

I can see not taking checks but cash?

It's odd how they can take debit cards with that logic.

Unless they do not make you give a CC when you join.

Why would anyone need a local rental shop now that the internet exists. Even if you aren't into piracy you can use services like Netflix and Gamefly that are light years more convenient than any brick and mortar store.

That much is true...Blockbuster is slowly dying out over here, and Starstruck is already dead.

This. And even if the turnaround on Netflix is too slow for you, or you want more than one movie at a time, you can hit up Redbox for only $1 each.

They probably won't take cash so that a credit card is on file in case you steal their movie. I'd still accept cash, but want the card on file. OTOH, yeah...they could easily pull something real shady with some identity theft.

which is why i informed the local cops after returning home from said rental business. cops told me they are going to get someone to check out these guys & their business.

you don't join at all. in order to rent anything from them you first have to give them your photo ID/license & credit/debit card for them to make a copy for themselves & will only accept a credit/debit card from anyone that decides to rent from them for each time you use their business.

very true on both counts, but not everybody in this town has the ability or resources to use Netflix/Gamefly for the prices they charge for their services & are more comfortable using the old brick & mortar store method.

and as well, this is pretty much a farming town with most, if not all, folks around here not knowing of certain specific sites to get it for free or majorly worried about getting busted for having such material on their systems/in their homes.

closest 40 locations for a Redbox machine for this town ranges from 10miles-50miles away in 13 other cities.

agreed, i already in formed the cops of this business' current activity

true, but IMHO it only makes since to have just a photo ID/license on file in case someone steals a movie/game rental from them or any rental business. not accepting cold hard cash & having both your photo ID/license & credit/debit card info on record for them is beyond shady for a rental business that this town desperately needs for folks that don't have vast internet knowledge in obtaining such material for free.

Maybe it's a front for something else. They could be dealing drugs or have cock fights in the back room. Watch the place. You might see a couple walk in by themselves and then walk out with a newborn baby. Then you know you're on to something.

wouldn't be surprised one bit if that turned out to be true.

cops busted 2 mobile meth labs at the same time on the road less than 15ft-20ft on the right side from my drive way/house toward the beginning of 2010 & here's the best part of this story: a sheriff's department cop lives on the property to the left side of me.
