Please don't think me stupid for asking this but i'm a little confused.
In the Transformers Alternators series of toys whats the difference between the normal toys and the 'Binaltech' ones, or is there any?

    The Binaltech ones are Japanese.

Yup. Binaltech is Takara's version of Alternators; they have die-cast, as opposed to the all-plastic construction of Alts.

welcome to the boards. there was a thread like this just a few days ago. basically, alternators were made by hasbro and made of plastic parts. binaltechs on the other hand were made by takara, and have a combination of mostly die-cast and some plastic parts, with the exception of bt-18, rijie (clear mirage). hope this helps.

There are also some toys that didn't appear in both lines:

    Alternator exclusives:
    Swerve
    Decepticharge
    Ricochet
    Rollbar
    Camshaft
    Opaque Mirage
    Rumble
    Ravage-2

    Binaltech exclusives:
    #7 Smokescreen
    Smokescreen GT
    yellow Tracks
    red Meister
    blue Prowl
    Broadblast*
    Alert*
    clear Mirage
    Autotrooper**

*These figures appeared in the BT* subline and included little PVC figurines.
**This figure appeared in the Kiss Play line and included a little PVC loli fetish doll. Not really a BT, but it uses a BT mold.

Some of the Alts and BTs also had different paint details, most noticeably Skids, Sunstreaker, and Prowl.

Also slightly different shades of colors that the Alt and BT share (the blues, and BT has blue eyes, Alt has yellow).

Also, Alternators Rodimus had flames on his hood as compared to the flame-less Kiss Players Hot Rodimus so add that one to the list of guys who's paint apps differentiated between the two lines.

So opaque mirage is normal mirage...Why cause confusion with fancy words?

I just used it to differentiate between the Mirage you can see through and the one you can't. I like fancy words.
