I'm having a debate with someone. And he indicated that Armada has made more money for hasbro then the G-1 toyline. Is this even remotely possible? Does anyone have any hard data on this?

I find that highly doubtful. G1 ran from 1984-1991 (?) vs. Armada's 1-1.5 year run? Accounting for inflation, the economy is roughly on par with how it was running in the 80's, so I would bet parents' spending was equal to what it is today. I think your friend is off base with that statement.

There's no real hard numbers, but it's likely Armada probably did sell more. If you adjust numbers for inflation, G1 made more money, but as they are Armada made more revenue.

G1 ran for much longer then Armada so it's seems obvious to me G1 would have gained more money...adjusting for inflation that is.

Best way to look at is like this, which series had more products put out? G1 wins that hands down.

Maybe someone should ask this a Botcon :p

I think your friend was yanking your chain. There's no way Armada did as well as G1.

The Movie will sell well this century, just the idea of live action robot humanoids crash landing to find a cube is the best idea ever. :)

G1 ran from 1984 through 1987, me thinks. Them movie came out in '86, lasted one more season, then fell through. They did make that Generation 2 thing that was nothing but a rehash of old episodes, but I wouldn't really count that.

G1 ran through 1990 as a toy line, it outlasted the cartoon.

^ Yeah, and the show didn't necessarily fall through, Hasbro just decided the toys could sell without new episodes. That's how I understand it at least. I've never read it was a matter of ratings disaster or anything like that. Obviously the property was still popular considering how much longer the toyline and comic kept going.

Yeah, I can understand if Armada did well because of the numerous minicons etc but I will be extremely suprised if it out-sold G1 due to the longer period of time G1 was involved with.
