Sadly, haven't had the time to watch the cartoons :(

Did Elite Guard Bumblebee, Road-block Magnus, Shadow Megatron, Invisible Lockdown ever appear in the cartoons?

Or did HASBRO just do repaints for the hell of it.

No so far, and not likely to show up. hasbro does lots of repaints for the hell of it (or for your money).

So, what is the point of making lockdown clear? Does he have that ability?

It's not shown he has that ability, but seeing as he's a hunter, and has a ship full of mods and gadgets, it's safe to say that he probably does have a cloaking device in there somewhere.

Remember that practically 99% of character repaints are non-canonical ones, with bios slapped on that make no sense.

The only Animated repaints that have appeared in the cartoon are Skywarp, Thundercracker & Ramjet.

Add Cliffjumper to the list, and that'd be true. Also, if the listed Waspinator toy is supposed to be Wasp, then add him to the list. As for the non-show repaints, they're bound to happen anyways. Especially all the Bumblebee repaints. I personally don't have a problem with them. Then again there aren't that many repaints I've ever had a problem with.

But Cliffjumper was a repaint of CYBERTRON mode Bumblebee. There is no Cybertron mode Bumblebee toy so tehy aren't repaints of existing toys, hence they do not fall into the same category.

So far we've seen seasons 1 & 2 of TF Animated and they were not in the show. There is a third season being developed so those decos could possibly end up in the show.

Elite Guard Bumblebee is in the season 2 artwork on the DVD, so he may have been intended for season 2, but got scrapped at some point after the toy was made.

Clear Lockdown and Chicken Ratchet were just thrown together for the sake of giving Target exclusives.

The Leader repaints exist because it's really expensive to put together leader toys, so they want to make more without having to create new molds/voice chips.

So far all of the repaints are understandable. (ignoring the activators and assuming blazing Lockdown pops up in season 3) If we start getting stuff like Smiley Spider BlackArachnia, then we have a problem.

    No love for Sunstorm?

And does Femmescream count as a repaint perse? Or are we talking about only characters with known or planned toys?

    Yes to bold.

Best answer so far is most of the repaints that are not Starscream clones or Cliffjumper have not appeared in the show as of Season 2, and is a matter of odds on whether they appear beyond that point.

I personally think it counts. Either way, he's still a Bumblebee repaint, and as we don't have a Cybertron-mode Bumblebee toy (yet), a repaint of an Earth-mode BB is the only way to get a Cliffjumper toy. I think we're lucky enough to get the Activator toy, as he was barely in the show.

    In several episodes.

I suppose my question is, if you're not watching the show (and shame on you for not), why do you care how much of the toy deco's make it to the show?

Lockdown was supposed to use stealth ability in the early script according to Unicron.com's pre-release info.
