Here's what happened, I won an auction on ebay with a best offer. The seller then sent me an invoice with with my best offer but the shipping price was more than it was on the actual auction. He made up for the amount he lost in the accepting my best offer.

I emailed him asking why the shipping price was now higher, he said it was a mistake and I should only have to pay the $4.95 priority shipping price. I tried to pay him with paypal but it keeps coming up with the inflated mailing price. I asked him to send me a 2nd invoice with the correct shipping price he said he couldn't. He said I should send him what's on the invoice and he will return the rest to me.

He has 100% feedback but that isn't saying much, right now this seems really fishy.

My question for sellers is can you only send 1 invoice? ebay doesn't let you send a second invoice? Is this guy lying?

You can send as many invoices as you want, if I recall correctly. It definitely seems like he's trying to compensate for what he lost by accepting the best offer and bumping up the shipping. You can change the shipping cost on the invoice, too. You could suggest paypaling him the original cost, but making it a separate payment through their system but just mark the item as an Ebay sale and include the item #.

Yeah, you can send multiple invoices. I do it all the time.

Sounds to me like he's trying to inflate the charges & cover the losses. You can probably report him for that.

How could I change the shipping price on the invoice? That seems like the easiest way right now.

I believe the seller is the only one who can do that, they can enter in a shipping cost before they send the invoice out. You may just tell him you're sending him payment for what you originally intended to pay, but just go through Paypal's normal send money routine but be sure to connect it to the Ebay purchase. As a buyer, you can't adjust the invoice I believe.

Yeah I know. I thought you said there was a way. I guess I misunderstood what you wrote. I just went back and did "request total from seller" now he has no way of saying he couldn't send another invoice.

The ball is in his court now :lol .

Yeah, I wasn't sure at first. But now that I know he can send another invoice, he's not getting anything from me until he sends it.

Yeah, hopefully. Damn these sleezes and their games *shakes fist in air*.

He sent me another email asking for me to pay the amount in the inflated invoice lol, saying he would return the rest to me.... sigh. I will just keep requesting price from seller.

Now he said he doesn't know how to change the price on the invoice.

seller is either new, stupid or just bening a douchbag. Like many have said, you can send as many invoices as you can.

But I think you as the buyer can add + or subtract - money in the invoice. Its towards the botton of the invoice. You'll see the + and -, with that you might be able to remove the extra money seller has charged.

let me know if this worked

yeah, I've got sellers sent me multiple invoices with reduced shipping quote, so they can definitely do it on their side.
If he doesn't know how to do it, maybe you should google it for him then point him to that link, he shouldn't have more excuses after that.

He's trying to take advantage of you, you can send as many invoices as you want and can change the shipping price to anything you want, if I were you I'd contact eBay and ask them about it, DO NOT pay the higher price.

That used to work. Ebay doesn't have that option any more :( .

Yeah he is telling me to find links for him because he doesn't know how to send another invoice.

I just sent him this, the exact situation. http://answercenter.ebay.com/thread.jspa?threadID=900191013&mod=1244650539502

    Correct,

The only time the buyer can adjust shipping is if there are multiple choices.

ILD, unless the item is an uber must have you should report the seller. This is ridiculous and if he can send an invoice then he can change the shipping. SHENANIGANS!!!!!!!

The second you pay, you honor his contract by his terms. You should be able to alter the shipping price though. Try signing into PayPal and click on the "send money" tab, then the "Pay for ebay items" tab (Don't use ebay checkout). The item will show up then you can forward to the screen to pay for it with the shipping as a separate cost, you should be able to change it there. In the comments section, annotate that you are doing so per the terms of the auction listing and have confirmation by email that he listed the wrong price.

I did try that actually, and it kept saying I didn't have any items to pay for.

Anyway either the guy gave in or figured it out, because he finally sent me a correct invoice lol. Thanks for the help.
