    Ebay:
Over the weekend, I thought of this question as I bid (unsuccessfully I might add) on a G1 Overdrive and Downshift on eBay.

The OmniBots were never featured on the TV show, or mentioned in any of the original comics (I know Dreamwave featured them in a cameo in the G1 series they did). Nor were they featured on any of the catalogs and box inserts that came with the standard toys, they were mail-away items only.

So are they considered canon in the overall TF continuity or not?

Yeah, they're canon, just... G1 toy canon. Same way a random Sharkticon became a Decepticon named Gnaw, or the Powerdashers, or what have you.

When it comes to Transformers, everything that was officially released in any capacity whatsoever is considered canon. The only question is, which canon?

They are canon in the "Reinforcements From Cybertron" catalog that came with the 1985 boxed toys. Anywhere else? Not really, but that's cool. Most Autobot cars were jealous of their flip-out weaponry anyways. :lol

You jest, but Overdrive was my favorite Autobot car as a kid mostly because of that.

Why wouldn't they be cannon? They're official toys with backstories, in the 2010 manga, Dreamwave comics, Binaltech, IDW comics, etc.

I don't know how they fit in. Just that they're awesome.
