Recently I attempted the technique of removing wheels by soldering iron, and found the wheels to be permanently deformed, so I was curious what other techniques that customizers use to paint around wheels of Transformers?

Also, what do you use to protect the wheels from paint?

If you don't want to try the soldering iron method again, I'd suggest masking the wheels before painting.

I've ruined some wheels myself over the years, but the soldering iron method works best for me. But, I've also masked off the wheels completely & sprayed with success. I'd suggest getting some masking tape. I use Frog Tape to mask my wheels when I don't plan to remove them.

It's also good for masking other parts or for helping to paint or detail straight lines or thin lines. Once you paint or spray your figure & let it dry, just remove the Frog Tape & it should be good to go.
