Is there a reason they have an opposing over-sized hand? Do they like, hold onto each other with their regular hand, and spin around throwing seismic punches?

They were apparently one protoform that split in two. At least according to the movie universe book.

This certainly isn't touched upon in the movie, but does the book explain why the 1 protoform split in two?

Split protoforms usually happen when a protoform gets two sparks at once.

I also assume that at one point, like their ice cream truck form, their Beat and Trax forms were meant to combine (and both of their big arms would be the combined form's regular arms).
