Exactly what the title states. Sentinel was trying to save cybertron, Megatron wanted to rule everything.

 

I'm gonna go ahead and say he's a Decepticon. Autobots don't shoot their teammates to death and sentence an entire species to slave labor.

 

He was a Decepticon-allied Autobot. He never called himself Decepticon, and made it explicit he was merely working with Megatron, not for him.

However as said above he's not really and Autobot anymore, but you get what I mean.

But Sentinel, in my opinion, is the TRULY neutral guy on the war, he sided with the 'Cons, he's evil enough to betray the Autobots and enslave mankind, but not evil enough to let Megatron rulling.

In fact, his goal almost made me root for him.

He was the classic Well Intentioned Extremist

 

Neither...he was just a Cybertronian looking to save the Transformer race as a whole.

His eyes were still blue so I guess he was riding the fine line, but no longer a real good guy. He is a twisted mess of a robot, actually more Shockwave than Shockwave in a way.

 

I hope you don't mean Optimus, because if you do you could not be more wrong.

Cybertron was a dead, war-torn husk of a world, uninhabitable with all Autobots and and Decepticons scattered throughtout the galaxy. Optimus found a way for his people to live peacefully, on Earth. Sentinel was so blinded he couldn't even consider living on another planet, and risked both for a futile plan that would enslave and destroy an entire species. His intentions were good, but his means were selfish and immoral, especially with Earth more than willing to let the Autobots stay there.

 

Before their race were in factions led by Optimus and Megatron Sentinel Prime was their leader.

Sentinel Prime uniting the fragmented Cybertronian society under the Autobot flag as its founder.

Then the Decepticon founder the Fallen came along corrupting Megatron ruining everything Sentinel Prime has worked for.

If Sentinel Prime found out about the Fallen he'd kill him for not only killing his brothers but also for destroying his dream of a saved Cybertron.

 

He's an Autobot the same way Jetfire and Wheelie was a Decepticon....Poor Wheelie.

 

He's an Autobot trying to save his home planet and species, no matter the cost.

 

He was a Cybertronian Patriot, that's how one can best describe him, IMO.

 

you could argue that in war there is no such thing as good or bad. in this case it would be autobots or decepticons. After all they are nothing more then lables

Neither. He stopped being an Autobot when he made a deal with Megatron, but he also said in DOTM that he's not working FOR Megs, so...

 

IMO the difference between an Autobot and Decepticon is their view or values towards life. The Autobots value life - that's why before Optimus shot Sentinal, he said the latter had betrayed himself.

The moment Sentinal chose to enslave the earth for Cyberton's sake, he became a Decepticon. Its like what Jetfire said in TF2 - "its an intense personal choice".
