Except he was using it as an attack. Not so much "I am secure in my sexuality" so much as "UR GAY DUDE NOT ME". One is legitimate (yours), the other...isn't.

I think you're misusing the term sexuality. No one is going to think a Brony is "GAY" (unless they mean gay), but they might think furry (at best) or paedophile (at worst). They may however question your masculinity, which is probably what you meant to say. And they would be fair to question it as evidence overwhelming suggests that Bronies are generally lacking in traits considered to be traditionally masculine. That doesn't mean they're homosexual.

Anyway, discussing the sexuality of bronies is far too theoretical and abstract for me.

Judging by the responses in another board I hang in, which is dedicated to all things sci-fi, yeah it would.

It's a good show in a brand whose products and shows have historically been geared to girls. Instead of following in the footsteps of it's predecessors it is smart enough to keep it appealing for everyone, creating a "OH GOD WHY DO I EVEN LIKE THIS?!?!" shock to people who wouldn't have thought differently.

It gets by without juvenile jokes and violence and still manages to be entertaining. The characters, acting, animation, and world building is certainly up a few notches above any decent show, allowing a fandom to form in it's wake.

That and I think people take a liking to something that's lighthearted, humorous, adorable and manages to be entertaining. Especially in the doom and gloom world we live in today. I mean, when has the internet ever had a place for love and tolerance?

And what about those actually don't give a damn about traditional masculinity and want to make their own choices rather than living up to some stereotype?

Gosh the hate in this thread is somewhat astounding. I would have thought better of TFW2005 members.

This thread started out very well, but it seems to have devolved a bit. How sad.

EDIT: After surfing a bit online, perhaps I can understand how the behavior of SOME bronies really turned others off. Please understand that this is only a tiny, but extremely vocal minority.

And even if we did.. Let´s check out the "stereotype":

    Manly things:

Girls? Probably been with more girls than some of the "manly" persons in this board.
Work out? Yup, along with some background on martial arts.
Cars? I have a marginal interest in cars.
Social life? Again, probably more than some people in this board.

And let's face it, collecting toys aimed at younger boys or having an interest in a cartoon aimed at boys is hardly stereotypical male behaviour. But hey, guess we should just STFU because we happen to like MLP. Hand in your Y chromosomes everyone.

I seem to recall that there was a certain ammount of unhealthy interest in Sari when TF:Animated was on and let's not forget those wonderful threads that cropped up in the Prime forum from time to time.

That comparison is only valid if the person telling you it's wrong is engaging in the other.

And, in my experience here, I've seen the Prime board and it's spam posts blasted quite a bit, so it's not like the stuff that's written there is viewed as "normal" by most people.

As for "bronies", and this thread in general, it sucks to see a pretty simple question that was answered within the first 5 responses has turned into page after page of bullshit.

People like what they like, and that's fine. However, when you choose to participate in a fandom of something that's blatantly geared towards both an opposite gender and age, why get soooooooooooo personally offended when that's called out or questioned? That, in and of itself is 1,000x more odd than the like of the show.

If I decide to start carrying my wallet in a purse instead of my pocket, I'm going to look nuts flipping out at someone who sees the purse on my desk at work and asks why I have a goddamned purse.

It's like, if you do something that you know will stir questions, why waste your energy getting all pissy when the questions come?

I don't think it's the whole thing about "You guys watch a little girl's show?" that rubs some of us the wrong way. Hell, it's obvious that the answer from all of us will be "Yeah, so?" We have no issue with that.

It's the whole "You watch MLP? Pfft, Pedo." or "You watch MLP? So you're a furry/gay/etc." or when some group of people just assume that everyone who watches it and aren't in the target audience has some sort of problem. It's the assumptions, basically.

More or less this. But then again, this is TFW, assumptions are what most people make here.
