    Hi
I'm been thinking about buying the Ikea Detolf case to display my collection. I just have a question is the case dust free? Because I also been looking in to a Acrylic Display cases which are dust free. Thank You

Found this, so I would guess not perfectly dust proof because there are gaps between the glass sides.

I'm glad this thread was posted. I've been wondering the same thing.

The gaps are only on the front side, along the sides of the pane of glass that forms the door. The panes that form the back and sides are joined by a clear plastic strip that runs along the edges from top to bottom. I've had my cases for almost a year and haven't had to dust the insides yet.

I really want several Detolf shelves but have no IKEA near me and their online shipping is terrible. Any suggestions?

I have four in my living room. Never has to dust the inside even though the I have to clean the exterior top once every while.

That's an understatement. I have tried so hard to give IKEA my money and they have gone out of their way to not take it. Unless you live in a town with one of these stores just forget about it. Closest one to me is about a 6 hour drive but I've been wanting 2-3 of these shelves for a while.

Thanks for that link. I had no idea the gaps were that big and the fix shown is effective and very cheap.

I have three, some dust does get in since the sides have small gaps but it is considerably less than if they were on standard shelves. I highly recommend them.

They wont get dusty like an open shelf, but dust definitely still gets inside. Ive had cases set up for years now, and while ive never NEEEDED to dust everything off inside of them, there is still a layer of dust that can be seen/removed.

Well, small weatherstripping could go a long way (as suggested in that link), so that shouldn't be a huge issue.
