So far, I know the fate of the rest of the Technobots, they die in some events, but I think Strafe joined the Lost Light and I don't think we see him after the Protectobots' final stand. Do we ever know if Strafe survives to the end of Lost Light?
He never dies on panel. With the way Lost Light ended, I don't think we have any way of knowing if he did survive. If he was turned into a sparkeater, he probably survived since only a couple of them were killed before the rest were cured but I'm pretty sure he wasn't visible then. From looking into it real quick, the last time we definitely saw him was when the Protectobots failed escaping.
My question about Strafe is why would they create a character who shares a name with an already existing character who exists in that continuity?
I've actually thought about that some. I think it has to do with the 2-headed Dinobot from the movies named Strafe. They already had Swoop, so they adapted another character to be kind of similar. I don't know the full chain of reasoning but I'm pretty sure that's where it started and ended.
Yeah, IDW didn't create a Dinobot Strafe, Hasbro did. lol at that horrible two-pack with a jet minicon called Strafe packed with the dinobot as "evolutions" or some kind of classic vs movie gimmick. So bad.
IDW created a different Dinobot named Strafe than was featured in the movies that Hasbro made toys for. They also created that character with a Technobot named Strafe already being in continuity, which seems an odd decision. With Swoop being around, there was no need for another pterosaur. They still seemed to like the concept, so they made something distinct from the movie character that still references it.
That's true, IDW dinobot Strafe isn't AOE Strafe. Albeit two-heads in beast mode. I dunno, it is kinda goofy. But we've had lots of names. I still love how IDW took Hasbro renaming Octane "Tankor" and made a bit about it. ^^
In universe, it's easily explained by the fact that Dinobot Strafe was a Camien, and Caminus was separated from Cybertron for an extremely long time. Compare that to the Prowl who got killed off in MTMTE issue 4. They make specific reference to him changing his name to Dent to avoid confusion with the other, more well known Cybertronian Prowl.
