So, I got a Gakken green alpha fighter from valiant_knight a week ago and I was just wondering. When were these made? How rare are they? Why can't I convert it to fighter mode? If anyone has the answers i'd love to know about them.

    Thanks

I think they were made back in the day... Like 1980's or so... Not too sure... But they can get pretty damned expensive... I SOOOOOO want a Cyclone...:cry

Me too, a friend of mine back in the day had the cyclone with the 8" figure that was fully transformable. I wish I could've gotten one......

I have all three Green, Red and Blue. I also have the Cyclone. They are from the mid 80's and are made very very well. You are correct today they score a pretty penny. I will try to walk you through the transformation. You flip the shoulders up and flip the nose of the plane down. At the same time you flip the robot head so that it is under the nose of the plane. You then line up the shoulders so that the antenna unit that was on his right shoulder lines up with the well behind the nose section. It will fit inside it and allow the wings to fold out. You then push the legs up and rotate the hips out so that the legs fold flat. the arms fold up and become the thrusters. If this helps great, if not I can try to get a pic of the box or instruction booklet. In any case to give you an idea of what they are worth, they usually go for about the following
    Blue $150
    Red $175
    Green $175
    Cyclone $200
    I hope this helps

    P.S. Robotech totally rocks......

Agreed. I have (almost) no idea what you guys are talking about!

Although, I think I saw something at MW about a Cyclone toy coming out...

Thanks for the info megamus, but I was being a bit sarcastic about the transformation thing.(not that you would know that of course). I can change it to guardian mode just fine, but the legs don't swivel flat and the heels don't move to far. Also, the hands don't retract into the arms either. I'm familiar with the transformation sice I have 2 Masterpiece Alphas (blue & green), I'm just surprised that one was made to only convert to 2 of the 3 modes. I guess they couldn't do everything in a toy that's only about 6" tall. But it's still cool...

Theres some Gakken pics at the bottom of the page here.

No new cyclone coming that i've heard of, maybe theres confusion with the new Megazone 23 bike toy (as edited into the disowned Robotech film).

Great pics Rabidyak! I've got the 6" alpha, but I have Lancer's, not Rook's. I also spotted the 9" cyclone my friend had.

There is a larger, fully transforming gakken alpha. I have all 3 of them plus a boxed cyclone. Unfortunately the antenae on my green Alpha is broken. I'm hoping to find a junker with a good head to swap it out someday.

I had a diecast red one back in the day, I think it was a Matchbox one. I wish I knew what happened to it.

That is correct, it sounds like you have the 6inch version. The bigger version is the way to go, fully transformable and awsome.
