Was the G1 Ultra Magnus toy created to look like the movie, or was the movie character created to look like an existing toy? His TF wikia page strongly implies it already existed before the movie was made, but that part of the page is really poorly written and is ambiguous. Also, if it was around before the movie, does anyone have pictures of it? Thanks!

 

It already existed.

Ultra Magnus is the only movie character that was (like the 84/85 cast) based on a Diaclone toy, which means the character design had to be based around that. However, one thing that was different about him was his color scheme, which was going to be based on the Diaclone toy but was changed at some point in production, and obviously, the toy reflects the change.

 

Only about half of that trailer was actually final movie footage!

Where the heck did the other half come from/go to??? It looks too high a standard to just have been done for the trailer.

Plus there were lots of extended scenes. I own every version of the movie on DVD and have never seen these or heard mention of them. Sorry, I know it's OT but would love to find out.

 

I believe it was some kind of early production demonstration to sell the movie. But if you do have every version of the movie on DVD you must have this because I've got it on some of my own UK TF movie DVDs.

Yup. Which is funny because years after I found that out, I prefer his Diaclone colors. They look good in the deleted movie scenes. And Magnus is the only movie character I've ever liked.

 

Of all the new characters introduced in the movie, Magnus is the best and seems to have a spot shared by no other new character. He's a core part of the team and shows up regularly compared to say, Arcee and Springer and of course, everyone has a hate on for Hot Rod (even though he kicks ass!).

 

He was my inspiration for this kitbash.
