I'm thinking about buying a complete G1 dvd set for $20. The seller says it is a 20 disc set with -r type format discs. Does -r type format mean these discs are burned copies and I thought that there were only 15 discs in this set. By the way, this is the 20th Anniversary set if that helps. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

$20 for a whole set? Already that should tell you its dodgy.

I bought a few Cartoon series from eBay on what was said to be 'DVD' more like crappy VCD where the video barely worked.

If I were you, and the Rhino sets are way too pricey, try and look for the G1 set that was released in China, a bunch of people imported it, apparently its legit and decent.

    This one I think

Amazon.com: TRANSFORMERS Generation 1 (G1) : Complete DVD Box Set 15 Discs (98 Episodes+The movie) (In Chinese with Secondary English Audio Track): Movies & TV

Although my quick Google search also netted me this.

eBay Guides - Transformers G1 Cartoon--Rhino vs. Chinese Imports

I guess expensive Rhino sets are the only way to go legit.
