If this has been discussed before disregard this post. But as you can see in the bad ass post with all the 720 HD screen shots when Bumblebee is in robot mode along with all the other robots there is clear battle damage. But when they transform into vehicle mode they have perfect paint and no damage what so ever. I understand why but i just wanted to get your guys opinion and see if the damage should reflect both forms.

Skin secretes special oils called turtle wax as they turn into vehicles and gives them that new look feel.

The real cars were too expensive to "battle damage" is my guess. Anyway, at least the action figures that are battled damaged (that can transform) are battle damaged in both modes.

    illusions

The Transformers can project illusions to hide their batttle damages when in vehicle mode. They also project illusions of drivers.

    The real answer:

Originaly, they were clean in 'bot mode unless they fought. The problem was, clean Robots don't look real. That's why the BB dummy is also clean. (the CGI BB is also clean for one scene in S7, but it's just the quick shot during the AB conversation) They aren't really damaged, they're just dirty.

In the final battle, they are all heavily battle damaged, though.

Wasn't the BB dummy also used in one shot when Mikaela and BB are shooting at Brawl? The door wing looked too clean.

I'm guessing it's just an unavoidable inconvenience. Can't have them dirtying up their cars, especially a one(technically 2 or 3)-of-a-kind Concept. Can't have clean-as-an-operating-room robots

On the DVD featurette 'Inside the All Spark' they mention how hard it was for ILM to make it look aged and scarred robots could transform from clean and shiny GM cars. It was a trickly line to balance.

when they're in the desert they're talking about how in the picture of blackout it looks like he's cloaked by some invisible forcefield or something. perhaps they project the image of a clean, undamaged car, like how they project the drivers.

but what it really boils down to is that they didnt want to scratch up all the expensive cars

Yeah, I noticed that too. I figure the robot modes have that battle damage just to look cooler.

Yeah I think they should show battle damage in both modes. I do understand why they couldn't go smashing up the cars however, especially Concept Camero Bumblebee. Still pretty comical though.

I think it's time to go back to the Knight Rider method. Destroy as many cars as it takes to get the job done lol.
