It is stated that Shockwave modified them into Triple Changers. My question is which is their first modes? Were they based on Earth modes or Cybertrorian? And were thay given their names after this or were they just called Astro & Blitz.

    ???

you're talking about Dreamwave right? It's a bit of a continuity error. Blitzwing is clearly shown as already being a triplechanger in the first volume of War Within, but in subsequent volumes they claim that he isnt one but he's "mutating" into one.

who cares about DW continuity. They altered something that was already set 20 years ago.

With so many sources claiming to be 'canon' it's better to just not think about things like this. When asking "What came first, chicken or the egg", the answer is "chocolate pudding" when dealing with Transformers continuity.

i always thought the egg came first.

anyway, there's no such thing as official canon for TF simply because there was never meant to be one.

Whoa, I'm gonna have to re-read my comics again as I do not remember that happening to Blitzwing at all. Not sure how I missed it.

I like Pistachio pudding myself. And does it really matter, they're triple changers, how they got that way may never be truly resolved.

Was there any triple-changer origin stories? I don't remember anything more than "hey look! new guys!" from the cartoon. Comic either for that matter, but my memory is even worse there.

I always thaught they were built that way from scratch as an evolutionary advantage (Megatron giving the Constructicons the ability to merge) having 3 modes can cause confusion to enemys and also mean you can dominate a range of terrains. As for how some Autobot on Paradon named Sandstorm got the technique who knows.

Well, the cartoons never bothered with an explanation for triple changers. They were just there. I don't think the Marvel comics did either. It all started with dreamwave.
