so i really want to get into 3rd party figures but a lot of the larger figures prices make me feel really poor so i guess the rest is explained in the title (quality knock off's are also welcome)

Weijiang MPP10 is a good and cheaper start or their other Optimus figure (think they called it Commander?)
Good reasonable prices, upsized, diecast metal parts, etc.

Does Jinbao count? Individually very cheap but can only be purchased as a package. Bruticus (Warbotron OS KO) and Predaking (MMC Feral Rex OS).

Feral Rex is around $50 US on special on Taobao

Yes Model KO OS of Maketoys Guardia. Only Streetwise is out

If that includes voyager, I highly recommend MP-10V, he's gorgeous.

Also several 3P MP scale minibots and carbots would fit in that price range I think?

I have the KBB and I highly recommend those. I'm not sure what the cost is in USD but I assume it's around that.

mpp10, ko mp10s, and pretty much any KO MP, with a few exceptions that exceed your price point.
regarding feeling poor: if you can spend $70 on a toy youre doing better than 99% of the world.

MAAS Toys and Open and Play are both new companies making cheaper MP scaled figures. Quakeblast is also really nice, as others have said. If you want to build out a larger CHUG scale collection, a lot of those older figures are now being sold cheaply at retailers or 2nd hand.

I have few words of advice from someone who started dipping their toe in third party a few years ago and bought based on price to begin with. Get what you actually want and don't let price be the deciding factor. It's better to get 1 or 2 really nice figures that you really want than several $50 figures that you don't want. I've ended up with several figures I didn't really want because it was a deal. Take your time to do research and decide what you really want. Half of the fun is interacting with the boards and watching or reading reviews. You'll be much happier with whatever you decide on in the end.

TF-Direct is your best friend- you can get YM seeker KOs, Takasa Tony KOs, Soundwave KO, and the high quality MP Shockwave KO (or go for Quakeblast if you prefer that look) from that site.

Jin Bao oversized Bruticus is $130, but you do get 5 robots of high quality that combine into a very impressive gestalt. So each robot is only ~$26 a piece. (Masterpiece Starscream and Skywarp in the pic for size comparison).

Funny...but somehow I don't think there will be any 'going on the wife' any time soon if he cancels their trip to buy some toys!

The KO MP inferno is by far one of the best official Kos I've ever felt. Feels like an official figure.
But pretty much everything everyone has said !!

There's also a site called Sirtoys, which is run by someone who visits this site regularly. That has a zillion Kos at great prices, of all different categories. Great service as well.
