When a mold this cool comes around, I just have to give it some love. So.... Downshift's main problems were the messy deco on the side of the car, the head articulation, the arm articulation, and the lack of chrome. Can't do anything about the arm articulation, but I fixed the rest. What I did: I gave the toy a total green re-paint. All of the car-mode green is sprayed on with a clear coat on top. I added tons on chrome foil. I put foil on the back of the headlights to make them brighter. I put foil on the back of the head fins to make them stand out. I painted all of the clear yellow from the engine and windshield behind Wheeljack's head to make his fins stand out. I painted his tail lights. I painted his shoulders. I painted the sides of his head where the silver crest wraps around. I removed the silver paint from his back window. I did the "head mod" so he can turn his head. I eppoxied his gimmick claws together, filled in the gap between them, and chromed them.
Very nice. I've actually been thinking about painting the tailights on mine, exactly like that. Now, I know it looks as good as I thought it would.
I liked the look of the foil in the lights so much, I put some chrome trim strip on the back of mine. I painted black arund the light detail first, then left the trim strip flat. Really makes them look like lights in there.
Neat. Now I feel embarassed about the touch-ups that I did. I painted the turn indicator lights gold to match the gold on the knees, the mirror part of the rear view mirrors silver, and the back of the headlights gold and silver to make them stand out more, and the rest of the taillight assembly silver to match the concept art.
Excellent work. the only thing I'd add would be to foil his rims. That way they'd match his other chrome.
Ok, am I missing something here? where are the pics?? Edit: Nevermind, I see it now. So where can I pick up some of those chrome foils? I would like to repaint one to look like the cars from Grand Theft Auto
