Punisher Warzone Bombs at the Box Office - ReelComix.com
Saw this coming from the original trailer.
the theatre here didn't even get it
What do you expect when you release a B action film in December? What action film does do well in December regardless?
This had failure all over it. It doesn't even really matter if it's a good film or not, the timing of the release and the complete lack of pre-launch media support spelled doom for it. Seriously, outside of a thread here when the first (NEON) trailer came out and maybe 3 commercials in the last week, I haven't seen a single advertisement for it.
I can't say that Im surprised. Maybe it's my personal bias over the Thomas Jane film getting panned, when I really enjoyed it.
This may well be one of those that doesn't make any money until it hits DVD.
i didn't even know it came out already lol!
This year has had quite a few box office flops. Such as Speed Racer, Bangkhok Dangerous, Charlie Bartlett, The Love Guru, Meet Dave, In the Name of the King, Miracle at St.Anna, The Rocker, and now Punisher: Warzone.
So, it looks like...another bites the dust!
I actually didn't appreciate the Thomas Jane version until I saw trailers for the new one. Sure it's got more than its fair share of problems, but compared to what I've seen and heard about this new crapfest Jane's version is a masterpiece.
I still want to see it, but man, did it tank.
I'll never understand why so many shoot-em-up movies are released around Christmas. Just doesn't seem like the mood most moviegoers would be in at this time of year.
My favorite piece of data about this movie's floppage and comparison to other Marvel films is this: Howard the Duck had a better opening weekend in 1986. (It made $5 million.)
This movie is out?
I don't care how bad it did this weekend or howmuch you may or may not like Tom Jane's version, I saw the movie and it kicks Ass. I haven't had that much fun at the theater in a good while.
It may not do well at the box Office, But I'll bet you it rocks with DVD sales.
Put me down for another "didn't know it was out yet." But then even Spirit is getting more promotion than this thing. Shame about Punisher, but I've never been a fan of the character. I thought the Jane movie was fine though. I'm actually more interested in seeing Spirit now that I've seen a tralier that doesn't look like James Bond girls from an opening title sequence meets uber acid trip.
With all the properties Marvel has, I just don't get investing in this to begin with. This isn't 1991.
That sucks about it bombing. I was hoping it would do alright so we could eventually, maybe, in my wildest dreams get a Daredevil vs the Punisher movie.
that's sad, no HT Frank Castle for me.
These are one of those movies I wouldn't mind watching on tv for free. Like those horrible Sci-fi original movies. But there's no way I'm paying for it.
On the plus side, I heard there's a lot of gruesome killings.
Con side, everything else.
I have literally seen/heard NOTHING about this movie.
Who financed this? Marvel themselves (like Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk) or someone else?
Separate names with a comma.
